The well was drilled to the permitted target location (Permit to Drill #202-120), where the Kuparuk reservoir was encountered ~117' high of prognosis. Upon reaching TD and reviewing the LWD logs, the reservoir was believed to contain gas. An open hole MDT log was then run to obtain a pressure gradient and recover reservoir fluid samples. The pressure gradient confirmed a gas gradient within the reservoir and limited success was encountered in obtaining any fluid samples. Based upon this information, a decision was made to sidetrack the well to a new location ~1900' south east of this location. Below is a brief outline of the forward operations to P&A the current Kuparuk location and plug back for open hole sidetrack operations. These operations are currently underway, and therefore a verbal approval of these operations is requested. A formal Application for Sundry Approval and Permit to Drill for the new target, S-113A, will be sent in asap for your review. Summary of operations to plug back for sidetrack. 1. RIH with 5" open ended DP and spot a balanced 15.8 ppg Class 'G' cement plug from TD at 14,440' to 13,440'. The top of Kuparuk was encountered at 13,818' MD, therefore cement will be brought ~380' above the top of Kuparuk. Cement volume is 105 bbls and is based upon a 10.4" equivalent hole size across this interval (a 9-7/8" hole was drilled). Pull DP above top of cement plug and circulate DP clean. NOTE: BP requests that this plug does not require tagging. The plug will be set on bottom with more than adequate cement to cover the Kuparuk interval. We will not plan to tag the plug as long as there are no losses while spotting or circulating on top of the plug, If losses are seen while spotting the plug, we will wait on cement and plan to tag as per AOGCC regulations. 2. RIH to immediately above the calculated TOC and spot a 10.8 ppg mud pill from TOC at 13,440' to ~10,000' MD (currently working in a 10.1 ppg mud). 3. Pull DP up to ~10,750' MD and circulate out any of the heavy 10.8 ppg mud pill and verify a clean top of the 10.8 ppg pill at 10,750' MD. 4. Spot a balanced pill of 10.5 ppg MI Form-A-Plug from 10,750' to 10,500' MD. Pull above the plug and circulate DP clean. Wait 6 hrs for the Form-A-Plug to set. This plug will act as a base for the upcoming 15.8 ppg cement KOP. 5. RIH washing down at low rates looking for top of Form-A-Plug pill, estimated at 10,500' MD. 6. Spot a balanced 15.8 ppg Class 'G' cement kick-off plug from -10,500' to 10,100' MD. Cement volume is 52 bbls and is based upon a 11.5" equivalent hole size across this interval (a 9-7/8" hole was drilled). Pull above plug and circ OP clean as required. POH for kick-off assembly. 7. RIH and time drill off plug to sidetrack well. William S. Isaacson Alaska Drilling & Wells Phone: (907) 564-5521 Fax: (907) 564-4040 E-mail: IsaacsWS@BP.com 1 of 1 7/1/20024:35 PM 1. The well penetrated the Kuparuk reservoir approximately -117' high and LWD logs showed signs of gas in the reservoir. An unplanned open hole MDT logging run obtained a fluid gradient within the reservoir, and / verified the presence of gas. Plans are to plug back and sidetrack to a Kuparuk target approximately 1900' to the east of the current penetration. Below is an outline of the proposed plug back and sidetrack operations. Also enclosed is a schematic of the existing wellbore and proposed plug-back. If you have any questions or require any additional information, please contact me at 564-5521. Scope RiQ Operations: 1. RIH to TD at 14,440' MD with 5" DP cement stinger. Circulate and condition well for cementing operations. Spot a balanced 15.8 ppg cement P&A plug from TD to +/-13,440' MD (-380' above the Top Kuparuk Reservoir). Plug volume should be based upon an equivalent hole diameter of 10.4" throughout this section (105 bbls total). Pull above cement plug and circulate DP clean. /' 2. Spot a 10.8 ppg heavy mud spacer from top of cement P&A plug at -13,440' MD to -9750' MD. Pull / DP up to 10,750' MD and circulate out any excess heavy mud spacer above this point. 3. Spot a 10.5 ppg Form-A-Plug pill (cross-linked polymer pill) from 10,750' to -10,475' MD to act as a base for the upcoming cement kick-off plug. Pull DP above top of plug and circulate any excess pill out of DP. Pull to shoe and wait on Form-A-Plug to set (-6 hrs). 4. RIH to -10,200' and wash down looking for top of plug. Once top of plug is verified, condition mud as required for spotting the cement kick-off plug. 5. Spot a 15.8 ppg cement kick-off plug from 10,500' to 10,100' MD (estimated depths). Plug volume should be based upon an equivalent hole diameter of 11.5" throughout this section (52 bbls total). Pull DP above plug and circulate DP clean. POOH. 6. PU 9-7/8" drilling assembly and RIH. Dress top of cement as required. Planned kick-off point is at -10,300' MD, however will kick-off soon if plug allows. Kick-off and drill the 9-7/8" hole section as per directional plan to TD @ :t:13,011' MD (7330' TVD). POOH. 7. Run and cement the 7", 26# production casing as required to cover all significant hydrocarbon intervals (no significant hydrocarbons were seen in the Ugnu or West Sak intervals and therefore, / plans are to bring cement -1200' above top Kuparuk formation only). Displace the 7" casing with seawater during cementing operations. Once cement has had adequate time to set, freeze protect the 7" x 10-3/4" annulus as required. 8. RU slick-line and run gauge ring / junk basket to PBTD. 9. Run a 4-1/2",12.6#, L-80 TC-II completion and space-out tubing tail -50' MD above top Kuparuk. J S-113 Application for Sundry ') ) 10. RU slick-line. RIH with standing valve and set in 'XN' nipple below packer. Set packer and test the tubing to 3500 psi and annulus to 3500 psi for 30 minutes. Shear open RP valve in bottom GLM. 11. Nipple down the BOPE. Nipple up and test the tree to 5000 psi. 12. Freeze protect the well to -2400'. Secure the well. Rig down and move off. Post-RiQ Work: 1. RU e-line and perforate the Kuparuk interval, using bottom most GLM to circulate guns down as required. 2. Pull RP shear valve from bottom GLM and install dummy valve. 3. Fracture stimulate Kuparuk and perform cleanout as required. 4. Install gas lift valves. S-113 Permit to Drill 5/6/02 Page 5 ) ) Job 1: MIRU Hazards and Contingencies )0- 8-107i is the only well requiring shut-in for the 8-113 rig move. The well is located -15' from the 8-113 conductor and requires well house removal for the move in of Doyon 14. The other immediate offset wells, 8-103 and 8-108, are located -30' from 8-113 and will not require wellhouse removal or the need to be shut-in. 8-107i will need to be shut-in at the surface and the 888V if present (see Close Prosimity 80P listed below for details). All surface flowlines and gas lift lines will be depressured to header pressure. Discuss the move at a pre-job safety meeting and designate a spotter to ensure there is no danger of a collision. )0- 8 Pad is not designated as an H28 drill site, however 8tandard Operating Procedures for H28 precautions should be followed at all times. Recent H28 data from the pad is as follows: Adjacent producers at Surface: S-108 less than 10 ppm 5-103 less than 10 ppm Adjacent producers at TD: S-106 less than 10 ppm 5-100 less than 10 ppm The maximum level of H25 recently recorded on the pad w 0 ppm from S-40A. The maximum level ever recorded on the pad was -130 ppm from S-3 back in 3/2001. Both of these wells are Ivishak producers while the above wells and subject wel are paruk wells. ì/1t.iif¡~Nm\f~~r~:,:--'¡'--'f1't'fl--.r'i_\IIItI''1I~\II(I~~'i\\'(::\f fr- ..."""">:.."" _m""_",.,.......,..,..........,....,..,.......""""."..,......~,..."".........',""",,,"n""""""''''''''';'''''~':''''''¡¡','u''''-:'':'--.......-,,,,,y..... Job 2: Drill Surface Hole Hazards and Contingencies /. þ> No fault crossings are expected in the surface interval of 8-113. ~ Drilling Close Approach: All wells pass BP Close Approach guidelines under Major Risk rules for this hole section, however there is one close approach well which limits allowable well path deviation to -5'. The well is 8-107, and is -17' well-to-well at 550' MD. Note tolerance lines and allowable deviation from the planned 8-113 well-path. Also, a single shot gyro will be required in the surface hole due to magnetic interference of the close offset wells. The single shots could be needed as deep as -900' where we finally get -50' of separation from adjacent wells. )0> Minimal hydrate gas has been encountered in the recent Aurora 8-Pad development. In the few wells where hydrate gas was reported, it was encountered within a range between the 8V3 and 8Vÿsands. If encountered, hydrates will be minimized by treating the mud system with Driltreat (Lecithin). Additional measures include reduced flow rates and keeping the mud temperature cool «60 degrees if possible). Refer to Baroid mud recommendation. Job 3: Install 1 0-3/4" Suñace CasinQ Hazards and Contingencies ¡ ~ It is critical that cement is circulated to surface for well integrity. 215% excess cement through the permafrost zone (and 400/0 excess below the permafrost) is planned. As contingency, a port collar will be run in the casing at -1000' MD to allow circulating cement to surface if the single stage is unsuccessful. 8-113 Permit to Drill 5/6/02 Page 6 ) ') Job 4: Drilllntermediate/Production Hole Hazards and Contingencies ~ Two fault crossings have been identified in this hole section. As planned, the well will encounter the first fault at -9890' MD / 4890' TVD (within the Schrader M Sands), and the second at -11,305' MD / 5410' TVD (within the Colville). The estimated throws of the faults are 50' and 100' (downward to the east). The faults have not been crossed in off-set drilling, however based upon similar faults cut in S-106, lost circulation is considered to be a minor risk with both crossings. Nevertheless, have LCM products on location to treat any losses encountered. There is also a potential to encounter several small faults in the section 400' to 1000' TVD above the Kuparuk. The well path crosses over a known fault in this area, however the seismic data in this area is poor and any smaller faults in the area cannot be distinguished. ~ The Top Kuparuk target polygon has been sized to avoid a fault to the east of the well bore. Therefore, consider the east side of the polygon as a hard-line and don't be short. ,h Ov\l a. ~ Minor cuttings gas and gas cut mud þ:ä?"'been fairly typical within the Ugnu and Schrader intervals. There is a potential for these intervals to be over-pressured in some areas around S-Pad, however S-113 should penetrate this section within an isolated fault block to the west where pressures are expected to be normal. In July of 2001, the off-set well S-107 drilled the Ugnu and Schrader intervals with 9.5 ppg mud and no signs of being underbalanced. Nevertheless monitor closely for any signs of overpressure. ~ Differential sticking will be a problem if the drill string is left stationary for an extended period of time across the long permeable sections of the Ugnu and Schrader Sands. Minimize the time the pipe is left stationary. ~ KICK TOLERANCE: Based upon the expected Kuparuk reservoir preJsure of 9.8 ppg and a 10.1 ppg mud, a 12.2 ppg leak-off will provide just over 50 bbls of kick tolerance. Contact Anchorage personnel if LOT is less than 12.2 ppg. Based upon off-set drilling data on S-Pad, a minimum leak-off of 12.5 ppg is expected at the 10-3/4" shoe and will provide -60 bbls of kick tolerance. An absolute worst case kick tolerance for the 9-7/8" open hole section would be 30 bbls assuming a kick from the Kuparuk at -13,928' MD / 6810' TVD. This is a worst case scenario based on a 10.0 ppg pore pressure gradient at the Kuparuk, a fracture gradient of 12.0 ppg at the 10-3/4" shoe, gauge hole, and 1 0.0 ppg mud in the hole. ~ Drilling Close Approach: All wells pass BP Close Approach guidelines. The nearest close approach well in this this section is V -200, which is -1116' well-to-well at -9901' M D in S-113. Job 6: Install 7" LonQstrinQ CasinQ Hazards and Contingencies )0> Differential sticking is a concern across the long Ugnu and Schrader intervals. Communicate individual responsibilities to all members of rig team and review connection and casing running practices to minimize the time the pipe is left stationary. )0> At this location the Schrader interval is expected to be wet. Therefore, current plans are to cover only the Kuparuk interval with cement. If the Schrader interval does encounter hydrocarbons which require cement isolation, a light weight lead cement will be pumped to meet AOGCC requirements. )0> The well will be underbalanced after displacing the cement with Sea Water. Verify the floats are holding prior to continuing operations. If floats are not holding, hold pressure and wait on cement. Job 12: Run Completion Hazards and Contingencies )0> No hazards specific to this well have been identified for this phase of the well construction. S-113 Permit to Drill 5/6/02 Page 7 ) ) Job 13: ND/NU/Release RiQ Hazards and Contingencies ~ Diesel will be used to freeze protect the well. The diesel flash point is 1000 F. Diesel vapor pressure is - 0.1 psia at 1000 F. ~ See Job 1 for adjacent well spacing. Identify hazards in a pre move meeting, and take every precaution to ensure good communication prior to beginning the rig move.
