Overview:
CD2-05: A hydraulic fracture treatment will be performed in the open hole horizontal section to
establish communication vertically and longitudinally throughout the Alpine "A" and "C" sands. A /
4-1/2" liner is inside the openhole interval with perforated 5' pups spaced throughout the liner
section. Bio-balls will be used to divert the RA traced sand stages in an effort to create multiple
fractures along the open hole interval.
This treatment will increase the wells production rate and reserves. A coil cleanout will only be
performed should it be necessary post-frac.
Procedure:
1. MIRU seven clean insulated frac tanks with a berm surrounding the tanks that holds the tank
volume plus 10%. Load tanks with seawater from the injection system (approximately 2500
bbls are required for the treatment)
2. Rig up stimulation equipment and stab Tree Saver. (Test tree saver seals to expected
pressure using warm diesel to insure seal integrity in tubing hanger).
3. Pressure test surface lines to 9500 psi
4. Pump the 100 bbl Breakdown with Schlumberger's borate x-link fluid system (YF125ST).
Bring pumps up to maximum rate ASAP.

verified) if the well does not screen out.
7. Rig down equipment, (and prep for next well frac after evaluation by Engineering) move off
location.
FCC if required with slick diesel.

Enclosed is the approved application for permit to redrill the above development well.
This permit to redrill does not exempt you from obtaining additional permits or approvals
required by law from other governmental agencies, and does not authorize conducting drilling
operations until all other required permits and approvals have been issued. In addition, the
Commission reserves the right to withdraw the permit in the event it was erroneously issued.
The permit is for a new well bore segment of existing well CRU CD2-05, Permit No 204-097,
API 50-103-20495-00. Production should continue to be reported as a function of the original
API number stated above.
It is acknowledged that drilling preparations to perform the lateral exit were underway during the
late evening of August 12. Oral approval to continue operations was granted in a conversation
between Vem Johnson and Tom Maunder as provided by 20 AAC 25.005(a).
Operations must be conducted in accordance with AS 31.05 and Title 20, Chapter 25 of the
Alaska Administrative Code unless the Commission specifically authorizes a variance. Failure
to comply with an applicable provision of AS 31.05, Title 20, Chapter 25 of the Alaska
Administrative Code, or a Commission order, or the terms and conditions of this permit may
result in the revocation or suspension of the permit. Please provide at least twenty-four (24)
hours notice for a representative of the Commission to witness any required test. Contact the
Commission's petroleum field inspector at (907) 659 7 (pager).

Alpine: CD2-0S L 1 Procedure
1. Pump out of 6-1/8" open hole C02-OS, to +1- 14317' MD.
2. Orient down with mud motor and trench +1- 80' section.
3. Time drill down with mud motor until sidetracked.
4. Drill and survey new horizontal to confirm the well is sidetracked.
5. Drill horizontal, geosteering per geologist instructions to TO at 17817' MO
6. Pick up liner hanger and liner top packer. Run in hole on drill pipe (Contingent on management decision)
7. Set liner hanger and liner top packer. Pull out of hole. (Contingent on management decision)
8. Run 3-%", 9.3 #, L-80 tubing with SSSV nipple, gas lift mandrels, sliding sleeve and seal assembly. Space
out in liner top packer.
9. Sting in and land hanger.
10. Install 2 way check and pressure test hanger seals to 5000 psi. Nipple down BOP.
11. Install tubing head adapter assembly. Pressure test adapter assembly to 5000 psi. Remove 2 way check.
12. Test tubing-casing annulus separate!y to 3500 psi 1 30 mins.
13. Open CMPA sliding sleeve and circulate tubing and annulus to diesel.

Well Proximity Risks:
Directional drilling / collision avoidance information as required by 20 ACC 25.050 (b) is provided in
following attachments. C02-06 will be the closest well to C02-05L 1. Well separation is 7.9 @ 300' MD.
Accounting for survey uncertainties, the ellipse-to-ellipse separation is 2.3' @ 300' MD. This has not
changed from the original CD2-05 well plan, submitted previously.
DrillinQ Area Risks:
There are no high-risk events (e.g. over-pressures zones) anticipated.
Lost circulation: Faulting within the Alpine reservoir section is considered to be the most likely cause of lost
circulation. Standard LCM material has proved effective in dealing with lost circulation in previous
development wells.
Additional care and attention will be given to the higher potential of inducing a kick when drilling horizontally
as opposed to vertically. Good drillin9 practices will be stressed to minimize the potential of taking swabbed
kicks.
Annular PumpinQ Operations:
Incidental fluids developed from drilling operations on well CD2-05L 1 will be injected into a permitted
annulus on C02 pad or the class 2 disposal well on CD1 pad.
The CD2-05 surface/intermediate casing annulus will be flushed with 300 bbls of fresh water prior to freeze
protecting with diesel to 2000' TVD. The only significant hydrocarbon zone is the Alpine reservoir and there
will be 500' of cement fill above the top of the Alpine as per regulations.
Upon completion of C02-05 form 10-403, Application for Sundry Operations, will be filed. Annular pumping
of fluids occurring due to drilling operations, per regulation 20 AAC 25.080, could then begin once properly
permitted. As stated above, any zones containing significant hydrocarbons will be isolated prior to initiating
annular pumping. There will be no USDW's open below the shoe or potable/industrial water wells within
one mile of the receiving zone. Reference the enclosed directional drilling plan for other formation markers
in this well.
Surface casing will be set near the base of the Schrader Bluff Formation (C-40). These 450-500' thick
shales are part of the Colville Group and are known to provide vertical barriers to fluid flow in other areas.
The maximum volume of fluids to be pumped down the annulus of this well will not exceed 35,000 bbl
without the specific permission of the AOGCC. Fluid densities will range from diesel to a maximum of 12.0
ppg for drilling fluid wastes. Using 12.0 ppg fluid and the rig's specified maximum pumping pressure of
1,500 psi for annular injection, the maximum pressure at the surface casing shoe is estimated by:
Max Shoe Pressure = (12.0 ppg) * (0.052) * (Surf. Shoe TVD) + 1,500 psi
= (12.0 ppg) * (0.052) * (2370') + 1,500 psi
= 2,980 psi
Pore Pressure = 1,070 psi
Therefore Differential = 2980 - 1070 = 1910 psi.
The internal casing pressure is conservative, since frictional losses while pumping have not been taken into
consideration. The surface and intermediate casing strings exposed to the annular pumping operations
have sufficient strength by using the 85% collapse and burst ratings listed in the following table:

The horizontal production interval will be drilled with a 80/20 oil/water ratio M-I Versa-Pro mineral oil based

Dear Sir or Madam:
ConocoPhillips Alaska, Inc. hereby applies for a Permit to Drill an onshore production
well from the Alpine C02 drilling pad. The permit is for a second lateral leg of the well
CD2-05. While drilling 6-1/8" horizontal production hole on CD2-05 a +1- 2700 'section
of reservoir quality rock was encountered. The section thinned considerably near the
toe, lending to the possibility of opening more pay volume in the underlying A-Sand by
way of a sidetrack operation. After reaching TO, it is planned to pull back to a point
along the initial leg of the well (+1- 14317') and open hole sidetrack the well. Pending
approval, approximately 3500' ft of horizontal will be drilled. After pulling out of the hole
the well will be completed as an open-hole producer.
Sidetracking operations would begin the night of 8/12/2004, with respective approval.
Please find attached the information required by 20 ACC 25.005 (a) and (c) for
your review. Pertinent information attached to this application includes the
following:
1. Form 1 0-401 APPLICATION FOR Permit to Drill per 20 ACC 25.005 (a).
2. Fee of $100 payable to the State of Alaska per 20 ACC 25.005 (c) (1).
