Commission Anchorage Sir: With reference to the MPK-09 well which has encountered hydrate gas on the surface casing string as has been reported to you, the Doyon 14 drilling rig has moved off the MPK-09 well and is currently performing an ESP changeout on the nearby MPK-06 well which will require about 4 days work. While the Doyon 14 rig is working on the MPK-06 well, we plan to determine the integrity on the MPK-09 well by heating the well back up and monitoring for hydrate gas. At the conclusion of that effort we propose that either: a) the drilling rig returns to complete drilling on the MPK-09 well if well integrity is satisfactory, or, b) the drilling rig will drill a replacement well to the same Bottom Hole Location (BHL) from an alternate Surface Hole Location (SHL) if the wel1 integrity is not satisfactory on the MPK-09. The selected SHL is the MPK-14 which is just across the well row. To allow us the option of drilling a replacement wel1 from the MPK-14 SHL, we request your concurrence to expedite review of the attached form 401 (Drilling Permit Application) for the MPK-14 well with the understanding that this is a contingent well that will only be drilled if results from the MPK-09 are unsatisfactory." - Regards, jJ~ Fred Johnson BP Exploration (Alaska), Inc. 907-564-5427 \G\r\l/~L. .. . High Vis Mud should be / utilized. · Hydrates have been reported on K-Pad. Expected Depth for hydrates 2200' SS to 2900' SS. /' Keep the Mud as Cool as possible and treat with Lecithin. · Tight hole and stuck pipe due to clays and poor hole cleaning have occurred on K Pad wells. Lost Circulation Lost Circulation has been encountered in both the surface and production intervals. · The surface interval incidents appear to result from higher MW (>10.5ppg) utilized for hydrate issues. The higher MW did not effectively combat the hydrates and was eventually lowered to TD and run casing. · The lost circulation in the production intervals is associated with conductive faults. We do not expect losses while drilling this well if there is good hole cleaning.lf seepage and/or losses occur, follow the LOST CIRCULATION DECISION MATRIX in the well plan. Expected Pressures · All Formation are expected to be normally pressured: 8.35 ppg or less, 7.8 ppg in the Kuparuk. . Pad Data Sheet · Please Read the K-Pad Data Sheet thoroughly. Hydrocarbons · Hydrocarbons are possible in the Schrader Bluff interval. Faults · Two (2) faults are mapped in the intermediate hole section at 4883' MD(4753' TVD) & 6466' MD (6263' TVD). Fault #1 is just below or within the Schrader. Fault #2 is above the HRZ. Neither fault are expected to cause issues, Ensure safe distance from the fault when setting surface casing. Hydrogen Sulfide · MPK Pad is not designated as an H2S Pad, H2S detected from Kuparuk wells on the pad: MPK-06 20.9 ppm 3/2001 /' MPK-38 20.5 ppg 3/2001 /' Page 4 . .
