Request for Spacing Exceptions ODST -46i and ODST -47 Wells, North Slope, AK
Dear Commissioner Seamount:
Pioneer Natural Resources Alaska, Inc. (Pioneer) as operator of the Oooguruk Unit and on
behalf of itself and Eni Petroleum US LLC, the Working Interest Owners, requests the
commission approve this application for spacing exception to 20 AAC 25.055.(a)(3) for the
ODST -46i and ODST -47 wells. The wells will be drilled on State of Alaska leases ADL 355036
and ADL 355037.
Both wells are associated with the initial development phase of the Torok reservoir that can be
reached from the Oooguruk Drillsite (ODS). The development may employ a horizontal well line -
drive immiscible water alternating gas flood to enhance recovery from the reservoir. Studies
and analog field data suggest a 1,500' inter -well spacing is optimum. This initial ODS
development will serve as an initial flood of the Torok reservoir providing critical performance
data. Consequently, the ODST -46i well is purposely placed 500 ft. offset from the ODST -45A
well to allow early assessment of secondary response. The ODST -47 and subsequent ODST-
39 are the planned long term producing wells for this initial pattern.
Pioneer is currently drilling the ODST -46i in the Torok reservoir, which it plans to pre - produce
before converting the well to an injector, which would be subject to the Oooguruk -Torok pool
rules and area injection order. Pioneer plans to drill the ODST -47 as a producer during March
and April of 2011. As seen on the attached plat, both wells and ODST -45A will be open to the
Torok reservoir in the NW /4 of Section 15, T13N, R7E, UM. The ODST -46i and ODST -47 will
also be open to the Torok in the SE/4 of Section 9, T13N, R7E, UM.
Pioneer has recently submitted the pool rules application for the proposed Oooguruk -Torok Oil
Pool, which, if approved, will remedy this issue in the future. If you have any questions, please
call or email me.

Dale Hoffman
