When drilling the 05-35AL2 lateral, hole stability at the window became a significant issue requiring us to plug back and start over. We set a new 45 KB Packer whipstock in the 05-35A lateral at 10,485' MD to plug back. The plan is to drill a new "B" lateral from the packer whipstock set depth of 10,485' MD to a TD of 13,235' MD. This is essentially the same target just our kick off point is Higher up and the target TVD's are a little higher. This is still a Zone 1A planned well with the same Geologic polygon. The most significant change is the choice to run a fully cemented and perforated liner due to proximity to the GOC. When we run and cement this liner, it will P&A the 05-35 A and 05-35 AU laterals, with at least a 200' MD cemented 3-1/2" X 4-1/2" liner lap. We will complete a change in Approved Program Sundry and submit with the new directional plan, and completion plan. We are planning a 05-35AL2 lateral, however we would like to keep the parent well bores open if we can and run a slotted liner completion of a flow through whipstock. However if we encounter gas in the lateral while drilling we would like to run a cemented completion and perforate to maintain a gas standoff, this would however abandon both the A leg and the AL2 lateral. 2 A leg is marginal at best and AL2 was pretty much all shale and did not provide any added production when drilled last year. I'm thinking I need to apply for: 2 sundry permits to potentially abandon the A leg and AL1 lateral if needed. 2 permits to drill one as AL2 and the other as B But I'm hoping there will be an easier way than this. Maybe just one PTD and we can request the name change if needed? I.e. request PTD with the AL2 name and comment on the two different completions,then if we need to cement we can request the "B" name change but only have one API number issued. The A bore came on at marginal rates with minimal WC, and minimal gas. The well stayed around these production values until July-2011 when a slotted liner lateral was added to the 05-35A in an attempt to make it a more economical well to produce. The well had a few flush tests then settled out right back at the prior rates of 05-35A. the L1 lateral was drilled in very low net to gross sand, and the production trends agree with this. This lateral is being added in Ivishak Zone 1A because of the relatively poor performance of the existing parent bore, and L1 lateral. The primary completion plan will retain the parent bore and lateral. However, IF the new lateral comes in contact with the gas contact while drilling, we would like to change our completion strategy and proceed with a cemented and perforated completion that would then abandon the parent well bore and the ALA lateral as they have little _4 remaining value. One last consideration is that we will run an MCNL log prior to setting the whipstock to ensure kick off below the current gas contact. Guy, I've looked at the subject well's production history in the event BPXA needs to abandon the existing well and lateral during the drilling of the 05-35Al2 well. 05-35A was never a good production well. Production peaked at a little over 300 bopd but has spent most of the past year plus producing less than 100 BOPD and is therefore not a viable production well. If conditions encountered while drilling the L2 lateral necessitate abandoning the existing wellbores I / recommend we allow the operator to do so.
