Wright (ChevronTexaco) Prudhoe Bay Unit 2002 Borealis Oil Pool Annual Reservoir Report This Annual Reservoir Report for the year ending December 31, 2002 is being submitted to the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in accordance with Conservation Order 471 for the Borealis Oil Pool. This report summarizes surveillance data and analysis and other information as required by Rule 9 of Conservation Order 471. Progress of Enhanced Recovery Project Implementation and Reservoir Management Summary (Rule 9 a) (Rule 9a part one) Enhanced Recovery Projects Water flood has been implemented in Borealis, which includes 10 injectors in full service and one pre-produced injector. V-109 is a pre-produced injector that is in progress to be converted at this report date. Other Enhanced Recovery Projects are being studied, with no formal or final plan approved at this report date. (Rule 9a part two) Reservoir Management Summary The objective of the Borealis reservoir management strategy is to manage reservoir development and depletion to maximize ultimate recovery consistent with prudent oil field engineering practices. Water injection was initiated in June 2002 to restore reservoir pressure and reduce gas oil ratios (GORs), thereby enabling wells to be produced at their full capacity. An irregular pattern waterflood has been designed and implemented to ensure pressure is maintained in individual reservoir compartments and areal sweep is maximized. While initial patterns are based on the current understanding of compartmentalization; reservoir management is a dynamic process. Patterns and producer/injector ratios will be modified as development wells and surveillance data provide new information. The surveillance program emphasizes pressure monitoring and waterflood performance monitoring to support this feedback and intervention process. During primary depletion, a number of producers experienced have increasing gas-oil- ratios (GORs). Table 2 contains information on six of these wells and the resulting lower GOR’s after the strategy action. Production was restricted in several wells in 2002 to conserve reservoir energy. Water injection is ramping up with VRR target initially greater than 1.0. Installation of a pressure letdown station in the GC-2 facility is complete, raising the water injection pressure at Borealis and resulting in current injection rates of approximately 50,000 BWPD. When reservoir pressure is restored to a target range of 3000-3400 psig, a balanced VRR will be maintained. Overall field GOR has decreased as water injection ramps up. In general, the conservation strategy for Borealis waterflood management is progressing as planned. Voidage Balance by Month of Produced and Injected Fluids (Rule 9 b) Monthly production and injection surface volumes for 2002 are summarized in Table 1. Attachments 2, 2a and 2b graphically depict this information since start-up. Subsequent to initiating and stabilizing injection, monthly reservoir voidage will be balanced with water injection, consistent with the reservoir management strategy. Analysis of Reservoir Pressure Surveys within the Pool (Rule 9 c) Reservoir pressure monitoring is performed in accordance with Rule 5 of Conservation Order 471. A summary of reservoir pressure surveys obtained during the reporting period is shown in Attachment 3. Results and Analysis of Production & Injection Logging Surveys (Rule 9 d) In 2002 base static surveys obtained on all twenty-one wells drilled during 2002. Pressure Buildup or Pressure Fall Off surveys were obtained seventeen wells. A summary of reservoir pressure surveys obtained during 2002 is shown in attachment 4. No other profiles or evaluations were obtained during 2002. Results of Well Allocation and Test Evaluation (Rule 9 e) Results of tests performed in accordance with Rule 4 (d) are shown in Attachment 3. Borealis production allocation is performed according to the PBU Western Satellite Production Metering Plan. Allocation relies on performance curves to determine the daily theoretical production from each well. The GC-2 allocation factor is now being applied to adjust the total Borealis production similar to IPA production allocation procedures. See Attachment 5. A minimum of one well test per month is used to check the performance curves and to verify system performance. Future Development Plans and Review of Plan of Operations and Development (Rule 9 f & g) Development plan Development plans for the Borealis Oil Pool are set forth in the second Plan of development and Annual Progress report for the Borealis Participating Area. PRUDHOE BAY UNIT BOREALIS PARTICIPATING AREA SECOND PLAN OF DEVELOPMENT AND OPERATIONS AND ANNUAL PROGRESS REPORT Development of the Borealis Reservoir encompasses approximately thirty (30) to fifty (50) production and injection wells within the Borealis Participating Area. Development drilling commenced in July 2001 and production began in November 2001. Water injection started in June 2002. Borealis development drilling has been continuous during 2002, and will likely continue at a reduced activity level during 2003 and 2004. Wells drilled in the Borealis Participating Area to date are shown in Attachment 1. This plan addresses activities and operations through year-end 2004. Production and Injection Activity Current production from Borealis averages approximately 40,000 barrels of oil per day, 45,000 thousand standard cubic feet of gas per day, and 2500 barrels water per day. Water injection started in June 2002 and the current injection rate is approximately 40,000 to 45,000 barrels of water injected per day. Borealis production and injection rates from field start-up are shown on Table 1. Several recently drilled wells will soon be placed into water injection service, with water injection to occur for a period of time above a voidage replacement ratio of one to restore reservoir pressure. Wells Twenty-eight wells have been drilled in the Borealis Participating Area to date. This includes both producers and injectors. Nominal well spacing is estimated to be 160 acres, although pattern spacing is expected to be irregular and adjusted according to local fault patterns. Most producing wells are stimulated with a propped hydraulic fracture. Injection wells are typically produced for a period of time to clean up formation damage prior to conversion to water injection. The Borealis Owners will continue to evaluate the optimal number of development wells and their location throughout the life of the reservoir. Borealis appraisal wells drilled prior to 2002 (L-100, L-101, and V-100) have been put on production. Well Z-101, which is south of the Borealis Participating Area, is temporarily suspended. Well Z-101 was put on production in November 2001, but low flow rates caused significant operating difficulties for this well. At the time of shut-in, the well oil rate had fallen below 50 bopd from initial rates of around 200 bopd. Pads and Pipelines Borealis development includes two new pads, L-pad and V-pad, with production, water injection, and gas lift pipelines, roads, power and telecommunications that connect into the existing PBU infrastructure. L-pad provides slots for northern and central Borealis development and V-pad provides slots for central and southern Borealis development. A few of the most southerly wells in the BPA may possibly be drilled from Z-pad. L-pad and V-pad facilities also are also used for wells producing from other reservoirs. Borealis production is commingled with IPA and Orion (Schrader Bluff) production on L- pad and V-pad. L-pad and V-pad production pipelines connect into existing IPA lines at the EWE Junction between Z-pad and W-pad that then connects to GC-2 for central processing. The water injection and gas lift pipelines to L-pad and V-pad also connect in with the existing IPA infrastructure at Z-pad. Support Facilities Borealis shares North Slope infrastructure with the IPA as needed to support Borealis Operations, minimizing duplication of facilities. These include camp facilities, potable water and waste disposal facilities, shop and maintenance facilities, airstrip, construction pad, storage and warehouse space, oily waste disposal facilities, telecommunications systems, power generation, production separation, water injection, gas lift supply and laboratories. Waterflood Water injection manifolding is part of the L-pad and V-pad facilities. Produced water is being supplied from GC-2 to support the Borealis waterflood. Optimum waterflood spacing, configuration, timing and operations for the Borealis Reservoir are being evaluated. A waterflood configuration with well spacing of approximately 160 acres per well is anticipated. Enhanced Recovery Enhanced recovery techniques such as miscible gas injection and water-alternating with miscible gas injection will be evaluated for the potential of increasing the economic recovery of Borealis Reservoir hydrocarbons. Injection wells are being engineered and completed for Enhanced Oil Recovery service. Production Metering and Allocation Borealis production allocation is being performed according to the PBU Western Satellite Production Metering Plan. Allocation relies on performance curves to determine the daily theoretical production from each well. The GC-2 allocation factor is now being applied to adjust the total Borealis production similar to IPA production allocation procedures. A minimum of one well test per month is used to check the performance curves and to verify system performance. No NGLs are allocated to Borealis.
