Based on offset well data, the highest formation pressure expected in this 6" hole section is 3,450 psi at the section TD of 9,905' TVD (or 0.348 psi/it). Well- documented fracture gradient data for this area indicates that the fracture gradient at 9,061 'TVD where the window will be milled in the casing is 0.764 psi/it, Complete evacuation of the wellbore, except for a 0.11 psi/it gas gradient, is assumed. 6" hole section MASP (pore pressure) MASP (fin breakdown) = (9,905 ft)(0.348 - 0.11) = 2,357 psi (9,061 ft)(0.764 - 0,11) = 5,926 psi = Therefore, MASP in the 6" open hole section is 2,357 psi and the BOPE will be routinely tested to a working pressure of3,000 psi. ~, ~ Well Proximity Risk: The nearest wellbores to that ofC13A-23LN are CII-23 and C24A-23LN. This well will be 93' from P&A'd Well CII-23 at a depth of 13,500'MD and will pass 320' from Well C24A-23LN at a depth of 11,381' MD. Drillin2 Area Risks: The primary drilling risks in the C13A-23LN area are those of stuck pipe in the coals of the Tyonek and Hemlock Formations and lost circulation within the Hemlock Fm. The risk of stuck pipe in the Tyonek and Hemlock coals will be countered in three ways: 1,) Drillers experienced at drilling the formations of the Cook Inlet Basin will be used. 2.) Bit selection will include those which experience a slower rate of penetration when entering coal beds, thus giving warning of coals being encountered and preventing the BHA from entering them until the coals can be reamed open. 3.) The well's kick-off point will be below the most severe coals in the Tyonek Formation. Lost circulation in the Hemlock interval will be treated with conventional LCM. While experience has shown that this will be effective, the option will also be maintained of running casing at this point, if necessary, in order to allow the lowering of the mud weight to aid in solving a severe lost circulation problem, Disposal of Muds and Cuttin2s: MGS Platform C has a dedicated Class II disposal well. All waste wellbore fluids will be injected down the disposal well as will cuttings after they are ground. ,----- ,-, C13A-23LN Summary of Drilling Hazards POST THIS NOTICE IN THE DOGHOUSE ...¡ There is a potential for lost circulation as the wellbore penetrates the Hemlock reservoir. ...¡ Pipe sticking tendency is possible in the coals above and in the Hemlock reservoir. ...¡ This well bore is planned to pass within 93' of previously P&A'd Well C11-23 at 13,500'MD and pass approximately 320' away from Well C24A-23LN at 11,381 'MD, ...¡ There is no H2S risk anticipated for this well. RECEIVED OCT 2 (; 2001 Alaska Oil & Gas C on8. Commissîon Anchorage October 25, 2001 Ms. Julie Heusser, Commissioner Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission 333 West ih Ave., Suite 100 Anchorage, Alaska 99501 RE: Application for Permit to Drill: C13A-23LN Sidetrack Dear Commissioner Heusser, XTO Energy, Inc. hereby applies for a Permit to Drill an offshore development well from Platform C in the Middle Ground Shoal Field of Cook Inlet. The well is planned as a sidetrack of the existing C13A-23 wellbore in order to penetrate and develop an un- drained portion of the Hemlock conglomerate in the vicinity of Platform C. This well will be completed as a multi-lateral, with both the original well bore and the lateral producing via a common tubing string. The producing intervals in both legs of this multi- lateral are in the same Hemlock oil pool. Approval of the associated pre-drilling work plan for the existing wellbore has been requested via a Sundry Notice submitted under separate cover. The anticipated spud date of C13A-23LN is approximately December 1. The well will be sidetracked via a window milled in the 7" casing. The 6" hole will be directionally drilled to achieve a 90° inclination and drilled horizontally through the Hemlock reservoir. After penetrating the reservoir, a 5" slotted production liner will be set in place and a 2-7/8" gas lift completion installed above the junction of the lateral. The well will then produce oil from both the original wellbore and the lateral through the common tubing string. Please find attached information as required by 20 AAC 25.005 (a) and (c) for your review. Pertinent information attached to this application includes the following: 0 R t G \t~ A L 6) 1) 2) 3) Form 10-401 Application for Permit to Drill per 20 AAC 25.005 (a). Fee of $100.00 payable to the State of Alaska per 20 AAC 25.005 (c) (1). A directional plat showing the well's proposed surface and bottomhole locations per 20 AAC 25.050 (c) (2). Directional plots and proximity calculations in accordance with the requirements of 20 AAC 25.050. Diagrams and descriptions of the BOP equipment to be used as required by 20 AAC 25.035 (a)(1) and (b) were previously submitted to your office and are on file. A complete proposed casing attached as per 20 AAC 25.030. 4) 5) XTOEnergyInc.. 3000N.Garfield. Suite175. Midland,Texas79705. (915)682-8873. However, H2S monitoring equipment will be functioning on the rig at all times during sidetracking, drilling and completion operations. 10) While this well is considered to be a development well, basic mud logging will be performed while drilling to aid in tracking the location, thickness and quality of the intervals penetrated. 11) A Summary of Drilling Hazards is attached. 12) The following are XTO Energy's designated contacts for reporting responsibilities to the Commission: 1) Completion Report (20 AAC 25.070) Bill Penrose, Senior Drilling Engineer (907) 258-3446 2) Geologic Data and Logs (20 AAC 25.071) Mike Langeler, Senior Geologist (817) 885-2581 If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact me at (915) 620-6718 or Bill Penrose at (907) 258-3446.
