The Shell Oil Company submitted a request dated June 20, 1966 for an exception to the 500 foot governmental quarter section boundary offset provision of Section 2061.1 of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Regulations, Title 11, AAC, for the exploratory well Forelands Channel #i-A proposed to be located 70' South and 72' East of the N~l/4 Corner, Section 30, T8N-R13W, S.M. at the bottom of the hole. 2. Notice of hearing on the petition was published in the Anchorage Daily News on June 22, 1966 pursuant to Section 2012 of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Regulations but no protest or request for hearing was received. AND IT FURTHER APPEARING that after due consideration an exception to Section 2061.1 of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Regulations permitting the well to be located within 500 feet of a governmental quarter section line should be granted because this location is best suited to the geology and would sub- stantially lessen the burden and hazard of drilling said well. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED that the Shell Oil Company be permitted to locate the exploratory well Forelands Channel #1-A 70' South and 72' East of the N'l/4 Corner, Section 30, T8N-R13W, S.M. ALASKA 99501 June 20, 1966 Subject: Forelands Channel Area State 1-A Well Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Committee(2) 3001 Porcupine Drive Anchorage, Alaska Attention Mr. T. R. Marshall Gentlemen: Shell Oil Company, as operator for itself, Standard Oil Company of California, Western Operations, Inc., and Atlantic Richfield Company, proposes to directionally drill an offshore well in the Cook Inlet to a subsurface location which will be in violation of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Regulation 2061.1. This regulation provides for a 500 foot standback from the quarter section lines. Our Forelands channel State No. i-A (formerly Well No. 1) will tentatively be bottomed at a proposed location of 70' South and 72' East of the North quarter corner of Section 30, T8N-R13W, S.M. The surface location of the well is 800' South, 311' East of the Northwest corner of said Section 30. For geological reasons it is felt that the aforementioned sub- surface location is the most desirable for testing oil sands discovered in the Forelands Channel State No. 1 well. However, since this well is being' drilled from a floating barge, it is not anticipated that any effort will be made to permanently complete this well as a producer. In view of these facts we ask that, in this instance, you grant us an exception to the 500 foot standback requirement.
