RE: THE APPLICATION OF THE UNION OIL )
COMPANY OF CALIFORNIA for an exception )
to Section 2061.1 of the Alaska Oil and )
Gas Conservation Regulations, Title 11, )
AAC )
Conservation Order #42
July 17, 1967
IT APPEARING THAT:
1. The Union Oil Company of California submitted a request dated May 3,
1967, for an exception to the 500 foot governmental quarter section
boundary offset provision of Section 2061.1 of the Alaska Oil and Gas
Conservation Regulations, Title 11, AAC, for the directionally drilled
development well, Trading Bay ~A-4, to be produced from an interval, the
top of which is 1800 feet from the south line and 21 feet from the west
line, and the bottom of the hole is 1977 feet from the south line and
129 feet from the west line, all in Section 3~ T9N-R13W, S. M.
2. Notice of hearing on the petition was published in the Anchorage Daily
News on June 14, 1967, pursuant to Section 2012 of the Alaska Oil and Gas
Conservation Regulations, but no protest for hearing was received.
AND IT FURTHER APPEARING that after due consideration an exception to
Section 2061.1 of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Regulations per-
mitting the Union Oil Company of California to complete and produce the
Trading Bay #A-4 well less than 500 feet from the protracted governmental
section line should be granted because the objective Hemlock Formation
was drilled at a lesser depth than anticipated because of unpredicted
structural conditions. This resulted in the producing interval being
located within the 500 foot boundary offset area.

APPLICATION FOR SPACING EXCEPTION
UNION OIL, OPERATOR, TRADING BAY A-4
TRADING BAY FIEL,D,, ALASKA
Union Oil Company of California, as operator for the above well, herein makes
application for spacing exception on the Trading Bay A-4 well pursuan, t.. to
Section 2061.. 1 of the State of Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Regulations
dated ~uly 1964. The requested exception is needed to produce oil and gas
from the Kenai sands and the Hemlock sands at intervals from 3545' to a mea-
sured depth of 6390' total depth. The production from those depths will be
conducted within the 500' boundary area of the southwest governmental quarter
section, Section 3, TgN R13W SBM. The Trading Bay A-4 well was drilled from
the Trading Bay Platform in an easterly direction and a plot of the well course
and completion intervals are indicated on the attached plat map and electric
log. The Union Oil Company of California and Marathon Oil Company are the
lessees of the contiguous southeast governmental quarter section in Section 4,
the only lands affected by this exception. ~-
This well was originally planned for a total depth of 9050'; to bottom approxi-
mately 600' East and 1970'~ North of the southwest corner of Section 3, TgN,
R13W. During drilling, however, and at approximately 6390', Union, as op-
erator for the Union Oil Company and Marathon Oil Company, completed the
drilling in the objective Hemlock after logging a substantial amount of oil and
gas shows. The directional program on the well, as set forth in Form P-l, had
not been completed at 6390' total depth and the well bottom hole location is
approximately 366' North and 687' East of the surface (Trading Bay Platform).
The bottom hole location, 6390' total depth, is approximately .1977' North and
129' East from the southwest corner Section 3, TgN, R13W. The top of the

series of pools in the southwest governmental quarter section, Section 3, TgN,
R131Ar.
We are currently preparing a sundry notice for change of plans on the Trading
Bay A-4 well to be filed with the Committee. We would appreciate early ap-
