Alaska Administrative Code, Section. ). T.rading Bay Hemlock NE Oil Pool, commingled
2061(b). ) Texaco Inc. Trading Bay TS No. 6
August 11, 1969
IT APPEARING THAT:
1. Texaco Inc., operator of the Trading Bay TS No. 6 well in the Trading
Bay Field, submitted an application, dated July 23, 1969, for an exception
to Title ll, Alaska Administrative Code, Section 2061(b).
2. Union Oil Company of California, as operator for the Trading Bay Unit
which is the only affected operator, stated it has no objection to the
application.
3. The subject well is perforated in an interval the top of which is
2801 feet FNL and 440 feet FEL, Section 34, TION, R13W, SM and the bottom
of which is 2814 feet FNL and 420 feet FEL, Section 34, TION, R13W, SM.
4. An emergency order to permit Texaco Inc. to produce the referenced
well from the interval described above was granted on July 28, 1969.
5. Notice of the hearing on the request was published in the Anchorage
Daily News on July 30, 1969, pursuant to Title ll, Alaska Administrative
Code, Section 2009, but no protest was received.
AND IT FURTHER APPEARING THAT an exception to Title ll, Alaska Administrative
Code, Section 2061(b) permitting Texaco Inc. to produce the Trading Bay TS
No. 6 well should be granted because extreme difficulty in maintaining
directional control prevented the well from reaching the desired bottom hole
location.
AND IT FURTHER APPEARING THAT correlative rights will not be adversely
affected and there will be no waste.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED that Texaco Inc. be permitted to produce the
Trading Bay TS No. 6 well from an interval the top of which is 2801 feet FNL
and 440 feet FEL, Section 34, TION, R13W, SM and the bottom of which is
2814 feet FNL and 420 feet FEL, Section 34, TION, R13W, SM.

Gentlemen:
In behalf of Texaco Inc. and The SUperior' Oil Company,

34, T10N-R13W, S.M. and 2814' FNL and 420' FEL, Section 34,
T10N-R13W,
During the drilling of this well extreme difficulty was
experienced in maintaining directional contrOl. On July 10, 1969
Mr. H. L. Burrell, State of AlaSka, was verbally notified that the
well at that time was directional drilling at about 9,000'. To
that date we had set some twenty directional deflection toOls, and
had been drilling in open hole for 39 days. The 'geology was subject
to interpretation, and it was not known i'f the expected bottom hole
location would prove productive. AdditiOnally, there was a 14°
dog-leg at 9,000'+ and we were afraid if more deflection tools
were run we would be unable to get in or out of the hole i At that
time it was agreed that our best course of action would be to
continue normal drilling to our original total depth, however at
the same time,to attempt to drop off the hole angle so as to
minimize the amount by which the well would penetrate the 500'
lease line set-back area. As a result the well has been drilled
to TD and the logs indicate productivity throughout the intervals
detailed above. At the present time we are proceeding to' run and
cement casing after which we propose to run tubing and complete
the well.
DIVIg0NOFOILANDOAS
Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Committee July 23, 1969
An emergency order is requested to enable us to produce
the well immediately upon completion. A copy of this application
is being sent to the Trading Bay Unit, c/o Mr. Eugene F. Griffin
of Union Oil Company, who is the only affected party to this
application.
Please advise us if we may provide further information
concerning this matter which will enable the Committee to reach
a timely decision.
