Dea:r Sir:
Mobil Oil Corporations requests your approval for the drilling
of the well Gwydyr Baý~1l from a surface location approximately
210' north and 2140' east from the southwest corner of Section 8,
T12N, R13E, Umiat Meridian, Alaska in the State Lease No. ADL 47468.
The subject well is to be drilled to a fotal depth of l3,000'~
Mobil Oil Corporation also requests an order of exception to the
well spacing restrictions for drilling Gwydyr BaYft~l, in that the
well's location deviates from required minimum stand-back at the
lease line between state leases Nos. ADL 47468 and ADL 49469.
Exceptions are requested for the following well spacing rules:
1.
Conservation Order No. 98-A, Rule 2, Prudhoe Bay Kuparuk River.
Oil Pool which specifies a 500' minimum stand-back.
2.
Conservation Order No. 98-B, Rule 2, Prudhoe Oil Pool which
specifies a 1500' minimum stand-back.

3.
State Conservation Regulation, Section 2061 (a) which specifies
a 500' minimum stand-back.
Since the well will be located on an island in the Kuparuk River
Delta, choices of a suitable surface location are limited. The
locations of lakes and areas of low elevation susceptible to flooding
were considered in the selection of a site suitable for construction.
There is evidence that there has been flooding on the north end of
'the island, probably due to ice blockage of the river channels during
breakup. We believe that the selected location is as far north as
practicable considering the problems of potential trl5??dj.~K, ~a~.9 '_~~
