order requires a minimum of 2000 feet between wells to any pay in
the same pool opened to the well bore of another well.
3. Directional control problems were encountered which resulted in
the hole not reaching the planned objective.
4. Both wells are owned bythe same operator.
5. The bottom hole location of the DS 3-4 well is 2000 feet South
and 1176 feet east of the northwest corner of Section 13,
Township 10N, Range 15E, U.P.M.
.
Notice of hearing on this request was published in the Anchorage

of Conservation Order No. 145 which states in part "... no pay shall be
~opened in a well closer than 2000 feet to any pay opened in another well.
The operator states that while drilling the subject well, directional
control probl~ns were encountered and, as a result, the top perforation
of DS No. 3-4 and the bottc~ perforation of DS No. 3-5 are approximately
1800 feet apart.
Parties who may be aggrieved if the requested order is issued are allowed
10 days frcm the date of this publication in which to file a protest and
request for hearing. Place of filing is 3001 Porcupine Drive, Anchorage,
Alaska 99501. If such a protest is timely filed, a hearing on the matter

Subject- Drill Site No. 3-4
Dear Mr. Marshall'
We have recently discovered that we are in violation of
Conservation Order No. 145, Rule 2, with respect to per-
forated intervals in Drill Site Nos. 3-4 and 3-5. Rule 2
states" ..... no pay shall be opened in a well closer than
2000 feet to any pay opened in another well .... "
Drill Site No. 3-4 was a highly deviated hole (57° maximum),
and due to directional problems during drilling, the bottom-
hole location was southwest of its intended location. When
Drill Site No. 3-5 was drilled, direction problems caused
the resulting bottomhole location to be further northeast
than intended. While individually, the wells are not
unreasonably off target, the combination effect was to place
the well bores closer together. While the bottomhole
locations exceed 2000 feet in distance, the extreme cases
(i.e., the top perforation of Drill Site No. 3-4 and bottom
perforation of Drill Site No. 3-5) are approximately 1800 feet
apart.
Since the Drill Site No. 3-4 well directional problem is
more significant, we are requesting an exception to Rule 2
for the Drill Site No. 3-4 well. Both wells lie well
within the boundaries of the Prudhoe Bay Unit and, therefore,
there are no changes of ownership regarding these wells.
Mr. Th(~i' R. Marshall, Jr.

We are enclosing a plot showing the relative location of the
wells. We have indicated both the bottomhole locations as
well as the extreme case mentioned above.
Very truly yours,
