Conservation Order No. 152
Kenai Gas Field
March 20, 1979
IT APPEARING THAT:
·
Union Oil Company of California, operator of the Kenai
Unit, submitted an application dated March 2, 1979
requesting an exception to the 3,000 foot minimum-
distance-between-completions requirement of Rule 2,
Conservation Order No. 82 for the Kenai Deep Unit No. 6
well.
·
The subject well was drilled to the primary objectives
in the Beluga and Tyonek Formations but there was no
commercial gas production in those formations.
·
Testing in Pools 3 and 4 in the Sterling Formations
indicated commercial quantitites of gas.
·
The pay in Pool 3 of the subject well is approximately
2,450 feet from the pay open to the well bore in the
Kenai Unit No. 11-6 well.
·
The pay in Pool 4 of the subject well is approximately
2,600 feet from the pay open to the well bore in the
Kenai Unit No. 11-6 well.
·
Notice of the application was published in the
Anchorage Daily News on March 7, 1979. There were no
protests to the application.
FINDING:
The Kenai Deep Unit No. 6 well has been drilled to 11,095
feet measured depth in the unsuccessful search for commercial
quantities of gas in the Beluga and Tyonek Formations but
commercial quantities of gas exist in Pools 3 and 4 of the
Sterling Formation, both defined gas pools.
CONCLUSION:
The requested exception to Rule 2 of Conservation Order
No. 82 for the subject well will not affect the ultimate
recovery of gas in Pool 3 or Pool 4 in the Kenai Gas Field
and correlative rights are adequately protected in the Kenai
Unit.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED THAT:
The Kenai Deep Unit No. 6 well may be completed in and
produced from the Kenai Sterling Gas Pool 3 and the Kenai
Sterling Gas Pool 4.
DONE at Anchorage, Alaska and dated March 20, 1979.

KENAI GAS FIELD
Kenai Unit
Application for Exception to
Conservation Order #82, KDU-#6
Gentlemen:
Union Oil Company of California, operator for the Kenai Unit has drilled
the subject well to the primary objectives in the Beluga and Tyonek
Formations. Testing has shown that there is no commercial gas production
in these formations at this location. Testing in the Sterling formation
Pool 3 and 4 has indicated commercial capability. Therefore, to maintain
deliverability from the Kenai Gas Field and in the interest of conservation,
application for exception to Rule #2, Conservation Order No. 82 is
hereby requested, to allow the completion in and production from Pools 3
and 4 of the Sterling Formation. Such completion would be approximately
2,450 feet from the nearest Pool 3 and 2,600 feet from the nearest Pool
4 production zones both within the KU-11-6 Well as indicated on the
attached plat.
Well pressure data on existing Kenai Gas Wells, indicate that ultimate
recovery will not be affected by this well spacing.
If any additional information is needed regarding this matter please
contact us.
Respectfully submitted,
