Union Oil Company of California, operator of the Kenai Unit, submitted an application dated June 22, 1979, requesting an exception to the one well per governmental section requirement of Title 11, Alaska Administrative Code, Section 22.055(a)(3) for the Kenai Unit KTU No. 43-6X well. 2. The subject well is to be directionally drilled into the upper Beluga and upper Tyonek reservoirs which are not fully developed in the field. 3. The Kenai Unit KTU No. 43-6X well will penetrate these reservoirs while drilling to a bottom-hole location of approximately 2600 feet from the south line and 1200 feet from the east line of Section 6, T4N, RllW, S.M. 4. The potential for additional sand development at the proposed bottom-hole location is excellent. 5. The subject well will help to confirm the reserves and might develop additional reserves. 6. Notice of the application was published in the Anchorage Daily News on June 28, 1979. 7. There were no protests to the application. FINDING: The Kenai Field has a great many gas-bearing sands and several individual or groups of these sands have been defined by six pool definitions. Since these pools were defined, other sands have been found to be productive. The proposed well will be drilled to evaluate the productive capabilities of a series of these newly-found sands. CONCLUSION: The requested exception to Title 11, Alaska Administrative Code, Section 22.055(a)(3) could increase the reserves in the Kenai Gas Field, will not decrease the ultimate recovery of gas in the field and correlative rights are adequately protected in the Kenai Unit. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED THAT: The Kenai Unit KTU No. 43-6X well may be completed and produced at the proposed location in Section 6, T4N, RllW, S.M. Notice is hereby given that Union Oil Company of California has requested the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission to issue an order granting an exception to the one well per govern- mental section requirements of the referenced regulation. The operator states that the Kenai Unit KDU NO. 5 well is completed in the undefined Upper Tyonek sands and the Kenai Unit KU No. 14-6 well is completed in the undefined Upper Beluga sands and that both wells are located in Section 6, T4N, RllW, S.M. The operator further states that the drilling and completing of the referenced well could develop additional reserves and will help to confirm the volumetric reserves in both reservoirs. Parties who may be aggrieved if the referenced order is issued are allowed 10 days from the date of this publication in which to file a protest and a request for a hearing. The place of filing is the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, 3001 Porcupine Drive, Anchorage, Alaska 99501. If such a protest is timely filed, a hearing on the matter will be held at the above address at 9:00 AM on July 12, 1979 at which time protestants and others may be heard. If no such protest is timely filed, the Commission will consider the issuance .of the order without a hearing. Harry W. Anderson District Land Manager Mr. Hoyle Hamilton, Commissioner Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission 3001 Porcupine Drive Anchorage, Alaska 99504 KENAI GAS FIELD Kenai Unit Application for Spacing Exception to 640 Acre Spacing, Kenai Unit KTU 43-6X Dear Mr. Hamilton: Union Oil Company of California, as Operator for the Kenai Unit, hereby applies for exception to the statuatory 640 acre per well spacing require- ment for the proposed KTU 43-6X, which will test the currently undefined Upper Beluga and Upper Tyonek reservoirs. To date KDU-5 was completed in the Upper Tyonek and KU 14-6 Was completed in the Upper Beluga, both in Section 6, T4N, RllW, S.M. Neither the Upper Beluga nor the Upper Tyonek reservoirs are fully developed in the Kenai Field. 43-6X will test the objective at a structurally high location, minimizing water production and is in an area where, depositional- ly, sands are fully developed. The potential for additional sand development in the Upper Beluga and Upper Tyonek at this location is excellent. The proposed well will not only increase the field deliverability, but will help to confirm the volumetric reserves in both reservoirs and develop additional reserves. By copy hereof we are notifYing the affected companies in the Kenai Unit. For your reference, we attach hereto a location plat in triplicate.
