Conservation Order No. 167
Prudhoe Bay Field
Prudhoe Oil Pool
July 17, 1980
IT APPEARING THAT:
·
Sohio Petroleum Company, Operator of the western
portion of the Prudhoe Bay Unit, submitted an applica-
tion dated June 24, 1980 requesting an exception to the
2000 foot minimum-distance-between-completions require-
ment of Rule 2 of Conservation Order No. 145 for the
Prudhoe Bay Unit No. Y-1 well.
·
The subject well was directionally drilled but the
intended bottom hole location was missed because of
circumstances that arose during the drilling opera-
tions.
·
Sohio Petroleum Company would like to use the existing
well bore of the subject well.
·
The pay in the Prudhoe Oil Pool that will be perforated
in the subject well will be about 1750 feet from the
pay opened in the Prudhoe Bay Unit No. D-10 well.
·
Notice of the application was published in the
Anchorage Daily News on July 1, 1980. There were no
protests to the application.
FINDING:
The Prudhoe Bay Unit No. Y-1 well was drilled to a measured
depth of 12,962 feet but the actual location was about 1100 feet
northwest of the propoSed location at the top of the producing
zone which is part of the Prudhoe Oil Pool.
Conservation Orde~- ~o. 167
CONCLUSION:
The requested exception to Rule 2 of Conservation Order No.
145 will not affect the ultimate recovery of oil and gas from the
Prudhoe Oil Pool and correlative rights are adequately protected
in the Prudhoe Bay Unit.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED THAT:
The Prudhoe Bay Unit No. Y-1 well may be perforated,
completed and produced from the Prudhoe Oil Pool at the location
now existing.
DONE at Anchorage, Alaska and dated July 17, 1980.

Subject: Well Y-1 (34-22-11-13)
Gentlemen:
Please find attached, in triplicate, Form 10-403, Sundry Notices and Reports on Wells,
containing our proposal to perforate Well Y-1 for production.
Perforating of this well would result in a violation of the Prudhoe Bay Field Rules,
Rule 2 of Conservation Order No. 130, which states, "...nor shall any pay opened to
the well bore.'. .be closer than 2,000 feet to any pay in the same pool opened to well
bore of another well." At the deepest (closest) perforations, the well is 1757 feet
from a similar point in Well D-10 (43-22-11-13) as .Der the gyroscopic surveys of each
well. As shown on the Application for Permit to Drill Well Y-l, compared to the com-
pletion report for Well D-10, the two wells were intended to be greater than 2000 feet
apart; hc~ever, during the course of directional drilling Well ~Y-1, circumstances
arose causing the proposed subsurface target to be missed.
We would like to apply for an exception to the footage spacing requirements of Rule 2
of Conservation Order No. '130 to permit the perforation of Well Y-1 approximately
1750 feet from Well D-10 in order to utilize an existing well bore.

Conservation File No. 167
Re: The application of Sohio Alaska Petroleum Company, dated
June 24, 1980, for an order granting an exception to Rule 2
of Conservation Order No. 145 to permit the perforating of
the Prudhoe Bay Unit No. Y-1 well at a distance of approxi-
mately 1757 feet from the pay opened in the well bore of the
Prudhoe Bay Unit No. D-10 well, both in the Prudhoe Bay
Field.
Notice is hereby given that the Sohio Alaska Petroleum
Company, operator of the western area of the Prudhoe Bay Unit,
has requested the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission to
issue an order granting an exception for the referenced well from
Rule 2 of Conservation Order No. 145 which requires a minimum
distance of 2000 feet ~between any~ pay opened to the well bore in
the Prudhoe Oil Pool. Due to circumstances that arose during the
directional drilling of the referenced well, the proposed subsur-
face target was missed. In order to utilize the existing well
bore, Sohio Alaska Petroleum Company requests an order permitting
the well to be perforated at a distance of approximately 1757
feet from the Prudhoe Bay Unit No. D-10 well. The subsurface
locations of the two wells are in Section 22, TllN, R13E, Umiat
Meridian, in the Prudhoe Bay Field.
Parties Who may be aggrieved if the referenced order is
issued are allowed~10 days from the date of this publication in
which to file a protest in writing, stating in detail the nature
of the aggrievement, and a request for a hearing. The place of
filing is the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, 3001
Porcupine Drive, Anchorage, Alaska 99501. If such a protest is
timely filed, a hearing on the matter will be held at the above
address at 9:00 AM on July 15, 1980 at which time protestants and
others may be heard. If no such protest is timely filed, the.
Commission will consider the issuance of the order without a
