BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. (BPX) submitted an application on October 9, 1990 requesting an exception to 20 AAC 25.055(a)(3) to permit drilling more than one well per quarter section in the NW¼ of Section 30 and the SW¼ of Section 19 of T12N, R17E, UM. . Notice of hearing on this request was published in the Anchorage Daily News on October 12, 1990 pursuant to 20 AAC 25.540. 3. No protests to the application were received. FINDINGS: , BPX proposes to drill a total of three wells (Sag Delta North wells 1, 2 & 3) to the NW¼ of Section 30 and SWk of Section 19 of T12N, R17E, UM. · The Sag Delta North #1 productive interval as proposed, extends, across the boundary between the two governmental quarter sections described above. · An exception to 20 AAC 25.055(a)(3) is necessary to allow completion of more than one well in a governmental quarter section. · Offset operator/owners have been duly notified and have filed no objection. Conservation Order ~o. 263 November 2, 1990 Page 2 CONCLUSION: Granting a spacing exception to allow BPX to drill a total of three wells to the NWl of Section 30 and the SW¼ of Section 19, T12N, R17E, UM as proposed will not result in waste nor jeopardize correlative rights. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED: BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc.'s application for an exception to 20 AAC 25.055 for the purpose of drilling the Sag Delta North #1, the Sag Delta North ~2, and the Sag Delta North #3 wells is approved as proposed. Box 196612 Anchorage, Alaska 99519-6612 (907) 561-5111 Lonnie Smith, Acting Chairman and Commissioner Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission 3001 Porcupine Drive Anchorage, Alaska 99501-3192 Sag Delta N.~rth #1 ~ncl Sag Delta North #2 .Request for Exception to the Provisions of 20 AAC 25.055 Dear Commissioner Smith: BP Exploration (Alaska), Inc. ("BPX") hereby applies for exceptions to the provisions of 20 AAC 25.055 which will allow two wells to be located in a drilling and spacing unit. The end result of this spacing exception request will be to have three wells located in two drilling and spacing units. Drilling and spacing unit #1 is the NWl/4 Section 30, T12N, R17E UM. Drilling and spacing unit #2 is directly north of and adjacent to drilling and spacing unit #1 in the SWl/4 Section 19, T12N, R17E UM. Drilling and Spacing Unit #1 - Sag Delta North #1 The Sag Delta North #3 well has been drilled and completed in this drilling and spacing unit. Pursuant to Conservation Order #260, the Sag Delta North #1 well was granted an exception to 20 AAC 25.055 so that it could be located within a 150 foot diameter drilling target circle, the center of which is in drilling and spacing unit #2; this location is approximately forty feet (40') north of the common boundary between drilling and spacing units #1 and #2. Given a target location so close to the drilling and spacing unit boundary, it is possible that the well may in fact (beyond the control of the drilling operation), be completed in drilling and spacing unit #1. For this reason, an exception to 20 AAC 25.055 is requested so that both the Sag Delta North #3 and Sag Delta North #1 wells may be completed in drilling and spacing unit #1. Relevant data supporting this spacing exception request are as follows: (1) Surface Location: Existing Endicott MPI Well Slot in Section 36, Township 12 N, Range 17 E, UM on BPX oil and gas lease ADL 34633. , FCE!VED 447S RJ Co m missio ne r{~,-,, ,lith October 9, 1990 Page 2 (2) Bottom Hole Locations: Sag Delta North #1 possibly in NWl/4 Section 30, T12N, R17E Sag Delta North #3 1010' SNL 3490' WEL Sec. 30 Both locations are on BPX oil and gas lease ADL 312828. (3) Sag Delta North #1 is separated from Sag Delta North #3 by an upthrown fault block. Drillino and Soacing Unit #2 - Sag Delta North #2 The Sag Delta North #2 well is planned to be located in this drilling and spacing unit. Pursuant to Conservation Order #260, the Sag Delta North #1 well was granted an exception to 20 AAC 25.055 so that it could be located within a 150 foot diameter drilling target circle, the center of which is forty feet (40') north and within five hundred feet (500') of the the south boundary of this drilling and spacing unit. Given a target location so close to the drilling and spacing unit boundary, the final, exact bottom hole location of the Sag Delta North #1 well may not be known in enough time for the Sag Delta North #2 well to be drilled without unwarranted delay. For this reason, an exception to 20 AAC 25.055 is requested so that both the Sag Delta North #1 and Sag Delta North #2 wells may be completed in drilling and spacing unit #2. Relevant data supporting this spacing exception request are as follows: (~) Surface Location: Existing Endicott MPI Well Slot in Section 36, Township 12N, R17E UM on BPX oil and gas lease ADL 36433. (2) Bottom Hole Locations: Sag Delta North #1: 5240' SNL 3380' WEL Section 19 Sag Delta North #2: 4100' SNL 4080' WEL Section 19 Both locations are on BPX oil and gas lease ADL 312828. (3) Sag Delta North #2 has a primary reservoir that is not present in either the Sag Delta North #1 or #3. A secondary objective of the Sag Delta North #2 is possible water injection to support the reservoirs in existing wells. The owners and operators of all governmental quarter sections directly and diagonally offsetting the proposed location of the wells are BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc.
