IT APPEARING THAT:

BP Exploration (Alaska), Inc. submitted an application dated
August 27, 1993 requesting exception to 20 AAC 25.055(a)(1) to
allow drilling the BP Yukon Gold exploratory oil well closer than
500 feet to a drilling unit boundary.

Notice of hearing was published in the Anchorage Daily News on
September 1, 1993 pursuant to 20 AAC 25.540.
3. No protests to the application were received.
FINDINGS:
I ·
The BP Yukon Gold well as proposed will be a straight hole
drilled from a surface location 219' from the south line and 640'
from the west line of Section 13, T8N, R23E, Umiat Meridian.
2. Offset owner UNOCAL Corporation has been duly notified.

An exception to 20 AAC 25.055(a)(1) is necessary to allow drilling
of this well.
CONCLUSION:
Granting a spacing exception to allow drilling of the BP Yukon Gold
exploratory oil well as proposed will not result in waste nor jeopardize
correlative rights.

The application of BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. for exception to 20 AAC
25.055 to allow drilling the Yukon Gold exploration oil well.
BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. by letter dated August 27, 1993 has
requested an exception to the provisions of 20 AAC 25.055(a)(1) for the drilling
of an exploratory oil well on the northeastern portion of the North Slope.
The exception would allow BP to drill the Yukon Gold exploratory oil well
to a bottom-hole location that is closer than 500 feet from a quarter section line.
The well will be drilled as a straight hole at the following location: 219' from the
south line and 640' from the west line of Section 13, T8N, R23E, Umiat Meridian
(UM).
A person who may be harmed if the requested order is issued may file a
written protest prior to 4:00 PM September 16, 1993 with the Alaska Oil and Gas
Conservation Commission, 3001 Porcupine Drive, Anchorage, Alaska 99501,
and request a hearing on the matter. If the protest is timely filed and raises a
substantial and material issue crucial to the Commission's determination, a
hearing on the matter will be held at the above address at 9:00 am on October 1,
1993 in conformance with 20 AAC 25.540. If a hearing is to be held, interested
parties may confirm this by calling the Commission's office, (907) 279-1433 after
September 16, 1993. If no protest is filed, the Commission will consider the
issuance of the order without a hearing.

BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. hereby applies for an exception to the provisions of
20 AAC 25.055 for the drilling of Yukon Gold Well (the Well), for which the
proposed location is:
1. Surface location: 218.59' FSL, 639.52' FWL, Section 13,
Township 8 North, Range 23 East, Umiat Meridian.
2. Bottomhole location' 218.59' FSL, 639.52' FWL, Section 13,
Township 8 North, Range 23 East, Umiat Meridian.
The owners and operators of all governmental quarter sections directly and
diagonally offsetting the proposed location of the Well are BP Exploration
(Alaska) Inc. and Union Oil Company of California. The plat required by the
regulation is attached as Exhibit 1. The verification required by the regulation is
attached as Exhibit 2. A copy of the notification to the owners and operators is
attached in the package designated as Exhibit A.

knowledge of the matters set forth herein.
2. lam a Landman for the well operator, BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc.
3. Pursuant to 20 AAC 25.055 (b), BP Exploration (Alaska)Inc. (BP), the
well operator, prepared a Notice of Request for an Exception to the Provisions of 20
AAC 25.055. A copy of this notice is attached hereto as Exhibit A.
4. On August ,-~ ¢-) , 1993, pursuant to 20 AAC 25.055(b), BP sent a
copy of said notice by registd'red mail to the last known address of each owner and
operator of governmental quarter sections directly and diagonally offsetting the
quarter section of the proposed location of the oil well, and has notified the
appropriate departments within BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. Attached hereto as

BP's request, if approved, will permit the wellbore of the captioned well to be
located within 218.59 feet of the south line and 639.52 feet of the west line of
the governmental quarter section in which the well will be bottomed.
