Supervisor ~i'z~l~ FROM: Lou Grimaldi, ~ SUBJECT: Petroleum Inspector LO32A-5.DOC Location Clearance Inspection Arco #SCU 32A-5" Swanson River Field PTD #73-026 Thursday, July 27, 1995: I made a Location Clearance inspection on the Arco well #SCU 32A-5 jn the-Swanson River Field. This marker is situated on a gravel pad on a trail like road in the far west corner of the field. It is likely that in a few years this road will become impassable to vehicular traffic. The following Info was on a 6" marker post: Arco Alaska Inc. A-028996 SCU 32A-5 2169' FNL + 2007' FEL Sec. 5, T 7N, R 9W ,SM. FED The pad was clean and well groomed with the exception of what appeared to be the old flowline shut-in point on the South side of the pad. There was also a piece of culvert with a "T" handle protruding from it which may be attatched to a underground valve. The surrounding area was well kept with no signs of impact from the existing Oil and Gas operations. I recommend final clearance be given for this well if the above mentioned flowline point is not a issue. SUMMARY: I made a Location Clearance inspection on the Arco well #SCU 32A-5 in the Swanson River Field. Potential Problems: A. Gas Entries: Gas may be encountered after packer is released, while cleaning out 7" casing prior to abandonment, while milling, and while redrilling. A gas sand in SCU 42-5 near 8000' kicked in 76 pcf mud through previously squeezed holes and in 85 pcf mud while tripping. The well was killed Proposal for Well Operations PRO 316-1 Rework Program -2- with 85 pcf mud and operations were continued in 90 pcf mud with no difficulty. The gas sand in SCU 42-5 is nOt present in SCU 32-5 and should not be present in the redrilled section of SCU 32A-5. Care must be eXercised at all times not to swab well during trips. B. Water Entries: Extreme caution must be exercised while redrilling this well because of possible high pressure water entries. The interval to be drilled is normally-drilled with 98 pcf mud. No water entries were reported in SCU 42-5., SCU 32-5., SCU 43-5 or SCU~41-5 using 98 ± pcf mud. The pro- grammed mut weight of 85,87 pcf will overbalance the original Hemlock Zone reservoir pressure of 5600 psi by 620 psi to 770 psi. C.~ ·Los~ .Circulation: ' .~ . The'programmed mud weight of 85-87 pcf will reduce the potential for lost circulatiOn while redrilling the Hemlock. The Hemlock was orig- inally drilled in the sUrrounding wells, except SCU 42-5, with 98 pcf mud without lost circulation, Circulation was lost in the Hemlock Zone' in SCU 42-5 while drilling with 98 pcf mud. The Hemlock Zone in SCU 4~-5 was redrilled below the'7'' casing shoe with 90 pcf mud pretreated with lost circulation material with no problems. · . ' ' D. 'Precautions: Any kicks should be handled by our normal procedures. Drilling crews should be made aware of these methods and care should be exercised at all times by every member of the crew. The hole must be kept full at all times. The mud system should be monitQred on a 24 hour basis while milling and redrilling. 2.' Maximum Anticipated Formation PreSsure: 5600 psi · 3.
