Chatterton Commi ss ioner State of Alaska Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation Commi s s i on 3001 Porcupine Drive Anchorage, AK 99501 SUBJECT: "POLESET" Conductor Data Dear Mr. Chatterton: As stated in our permits to drill, ARCO Alaska, Inc., would furnish you with survey data on conductors cemented with poleset material. The following summarizes the data compiled since the initial use of poleset. To date, seven conductors have been foamed in place using poleset material. These conductors are at Drill Sites 2-19, 13-17, 13-23, 14-30, 15-1, 15-2, and 15-13. Four have been successfully drilled and completed at Drill Sites 14-30, 15-1, 15-2, and 15-13. Drill Site 13-23 was abandoned because of an unrelated fishing job. Drill site 2-19 is being drilled and Drill Site 13-17 is scheduled to be drilled next month. All of the four wells completed or near completion have been surveyed throughout the process of drilling and cementing the 13-3/8" surface casing. The total conductor slippage (downward) for each well is: Well Total Slippage Comment 3-5/16" Abandoned. - 3/8" None. DS 15-13 1/8" None. DS 14-30 25-7/8" Conductor slipped 24-3/4" while landing 13-3/8". DS 15-2 2" None. It should be noted that in the past slippage has occurred with conductors cemented in place. The conductor on DS 15-12 slipped 3" when landin'g" 13-3/8" casing and 5" when landing 9-5/8" casing. The conductor on DS 13-10 slipped 12" while landing and cementing 13-3/8" casing. Chatterton March 9, 1982 Page 2 In any instance of noticeable conductor slippage, the conductor is either Chained or braced to prevent further slippage. Conductor slippage is not (and will not be) a problem at Prudhoe Bay. Using poleset has proved both economically and structurally successful and we are confident that it will continue to be such. Attached is an example of survey data taken on Drill Sites 15-1, 15-13, 13-23, and 14-30. Sincerely, ARCO Alaska, Inc. M. A. Poleset Backfill Cement DESCRIPTION' Poleset is a high density modified polyurethane foam developed for backfilling wood, concrete and steel poles and pilings. The 2:1 ratio formula was developed especially for application in extremely cold climates and also in soil with high moisture content. When mixed together an exothermic reaction occurs causing the two chemicals to foam, expand 13 to 15 times in volume and bond with the pole or conductor (depending on application) regardless of the material. The resulting foam will exhibit the following characteristics: Mechanical Properti es: Compressive Strength Tensile Strength Minimum Shear Strength Denisty (foam) 75-100 psi 30 psi 38 psi 7.2 lb/ft3 N~)TE' The above can be varied per specification requirements.
