We have discussed the progress or lack thereof of the intended pre-rig abandonment and the subsequent intent to accomplish the task during decompletion. The operational path has continued to the current situation where as you note, the condition of the remainder of the original completion is such that additional progress is unlikely. Your proposed changes to the plans are acceptable. As you note, the abandonment of the lower portion of the Y-20 wellbore will be accomplished with a combination of the bridge plug, liner cement and liner top packer. Good luck with your operations. Call with any questions. Tom Maunder "Sherritt, Allen" wrote: As per our conversation, the following is an outline of the required changes to the Y-20 P&A and Y-20A forward Program, (Sundry #301-01g, Permit #201-025.) The decompletion of the existing 4 1/2" tubing, to the proposed depth of 12,300' MD, was unsuccessful. The decision has been made to cease decompletion operations and sidetrack above the original kick-off point. The current tubing stump is at 11,657' MD, leaving collapsed tubing @ 11,727' MD and a fish across the production packer @ 12430' MD. An attempt to inject into Y-20 was unsuccessful, however the integrity of the g 5/8" casing was confirmed, as the g 5/6" casing held 3000 psi for 30 minutes. The P&A "bullhead" cement job can not be accomplished without the ability to inject into the original well bore. Therefore an EZSV/bridge plug, 7" 150' liner lap cement and 9 578" x 7" liner top packer will be used to fulfill the Y-20 P&A requirements. A bridge plug has been set @ 11,640' MD, putting the new KOP @ 11,600' MD. Forward plan is to set a whipstock, kick-off drilling out into the Kingak JD formation, holding angle @ -55 degs. The 6 1/2" hole will TD in a siltstone just above the Sag River Formation, @ -12,220' MD / 8817' TVDss, (-620' of 8 ~/2" to be drilled.). There are no proposed faults in this interval and lost circulation is not expected. An FIT to 12, 5 ppg will be performed after drilling 20' of new formation, (307 bbi kick tolerance.) A 7" 26# L-60 drilling liner will be run from 12,220' MD tied back into the 9 5/8" casing to 11,450' MD, (150' liner lap.) The liner will be cemented in place with ~41 bbis of 15. 8 ppg class G cement. This will provide I of 2 2/27/01 11:33 AM H.e: t,iRarlges tO Y-ZU/~, I-'ermK ~ZUYU>'O sufficient excess to ensure cement across the liner top packer, @ 11,450' MD. Drilling out the 7" shoe, the new directional plan will tie into the original Y-20A plan at Target point #1. The BHL, targets and trajectory are unchanged from this point forward. There is only a minor change to the cement volumes required on the 4 1/2" liner, (< 10 bbls.) As we discussed, with the Potential of lost circulation in the 6 1/8" hole and the probability of having to perform a down squeeze "top job" on the 4 1/2" liner lap to achieve the P&A, the 7" cement job will provide a more reliable solution for the P&A of Y-20. Hopefully I have covered everything, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, give me a shout. As soon as t have completed the "new" proposed completion drawing, I will fax you a copy. To: From: Subject: Reference: Tom Maunder - AOGCC Date: January 15, 2001 Allen Sherritt 7ES Operations Drilling Engineer Y-20 Application for Sundry Permit - P&A for Sidetrack Operations APl #50-029-21587-00 Sundry approval is requested for the proposed DS Y-20 perforation P&A. Y-20 is a horizontal producing well that was completed in May of '86. In 1987, while attempting to obtain pressure static data, 2 amerada pressure gauges and 3 cutter bars where left in the tubing at 12,359' (production packer at 12430'.) All subsequent fishing attempts were unsuccessful. Additionally, the tubing is collapsed below the sliding sleeve at 11,723'. It is believed this occurred during a mud acid/N2 treatment in 1992. The job was cut short due to excessive inner annulus pressures. A camera was run in '97 to assess the tubing obstruction, and confirmed that the first joint below the sliding sleeve was collapsed. The area is small enough to hang 1-11/16" tools. The well has been shut-in since December of 1996. The purposed sidetrack will replace the current well bore with an extended horizontal well bore approximately 6021 feet from the original well, to recover the remaining Y-20 and surrounding area reserves. The Y-20A sidetrack is currently scheduled for Nabors 7ES beginning around February 10, 2001. The pre-rig work for this sidetrack is planned to begin as soon as the attached Application for Sundry is approved. Below is an outline of the proposed P&A and sidetrack operations. Pre-Riq Work: 1. O Perform injection test to confirm injection rates for up coming rig P&A. T x IA are in communication due to collapsed tubing at 11,740' MD. Note: The results of this test will determine required rig P&A operations for Sundry application. Please schedule this test at your earliest convenience. Wait for Approved Sundry prior to completing the remainder of pre-rig work. . . RU slickline and drift tubing for upcoming tubing cut. RU E-line. Chemical cut the 4½" L-80 tubing at +/-11,718' MD (as per the 5/29/86 Tubing Summary, this is -5' down into the 10' pup joint of 4-1/2" tubing immediately above the Otis Sliding Sleeve). On 5130197, a video log was run to assess the tubing obstruction at -11,723' MD. The video showed an egged shaped collar in the 10' pup joint immediately above the Otis Sliding sleeve and the 10' pup joint immediately below the sleeve was collapsed. Displace the well to clean seawater by circulating down tubing through the tubing cut. Continue to circulate until clean seawater returns to surface. Freeze protect top 2200' MD with diesel. The well should not be left with methanol as a freeze protect fluid, diesel only. Note: The integrity of the 9 5/8" annulus cannot be confirmed due to open perforations and the collapsed tubing. The 9 5/8" will be tested with the rig. STATE OF ALASKA ALASK~ .L AND GAS CONSERVATION COMI APPLICATION FOR SUNDRY APPROVAL 310N 1. Type of Request: [] Abandon .
