Box 196612 Anchorage, AK 99519-6612 October 8, 1992 Attention' Nabors 2ES Drilling Engineer I have compiled a summary of Anadrill's performance on DS 18-16A. SERVICES PROVIDED Directional Survey Service with DWOB and DTOR (DSW) was picked up on 19-SEP-92 to begin the kickoff at 7823'. CDR was added to the service on 22-SEP-92 at a depth of 8619 for Gamma Ray correlation. Realtime CDN was also utilized beginning at a depth of 9297 on 26~SEP-92 for a determination of the GOC. Casing point at 9881' MD was reached on 28-SEP-92. Slim 1 DSS with Gamma Ray was run in the 6 inch hole section from 9881 to TD at 10834 between the dates from 30-SEP-92 to 6-OCT-92. OPERATIN(~ STATISTICS Total MWD footage for the well was 3269 and was accomplished over 11 bit runs in 198.1 total hours operating. One failure occurred during the first Slim 1 run as a result of collar buckling induced by compressional loads in excess of 115,000 lbs. ,lOB PERFORMANCE EvalUation of data in the window indicates new formation being drilled at approximately 7850, which came 25 feet after beginning the kickoff. This is seen in the fora'ration strength (FORS) and penetration rate (ROP) variables of the MEL log. This was considered to be an extraordinarily firm cement plug and not the typical scenario. Hole conditions throughout the 8 1/2 hole were generally good as seen on the SPIN log. Some difficulty during sliding intervals was encountered and attributed primarily to stabilizers hanging both above and below the MWD tool. The drag over sliding intervals ~as seen to increase on occasion. This could also be due in part to insufficient hole cleaning in high angle hole. Hi-vis sweeps have proven effective in similar cases to improve sliding capability. Slim 1 with gamma ray was run for the first time in Alaska during the 6 inch horizontal section of this well. One failure occurred during the first run due to a broken restrictor. This was detected during a toolface set when weights in excess of 115,000 pounds were used to get differential pressure from the motor. Initial field analysis concluded that bending in the collar under very high compressional loading would be required to cause the type of failure seen. The part has been sent to engineering for further analysis. A question of survey repeatability arose after tripping in and seeing a change of 2.4 degrees inclination on bottom. Several checkshots were made over the previously drilled interval. The station at the shoe and a checkshot at the last 8 1/2" survey point both agq'eed. It was decided to trip for the bit and change out the survey package. The second tool yielded the same results and proved the theory of trenching while attemptina to make a set with the PDC bit. The gamma ray tool proved very valuable in determining that the Kavik Shale had been penetrated at approximately 10360 fcet MD. A slower data rate was used for this initial well to ensure quality data accumula[ign. No problems were seen with the exception of rotating with a PDC bit and a motor. This was not a problem after picking up the insert bit. In future applications, we intend to evaluate the higher data transmission rate to improve on data saturation at high penetration rates. For your convenience, I have included an ASCII file of the surveys along with a hardcopy of the surveys. I have also included a copy of the sticking pipe indicator (SPIN) and the slimhole gamma ray logs. CDR/CDN logs were distributed by Schlumberger Wireline Services per the standard channels. Anadrill appreciates the opportunity to supply services on your well and we look forward to continuing a healthy business relationship. I found the rig to be clean and all BOP equipment was well maintained. The area surrounding the rig was also clean and orderly. The BOP test went very well. All equipment was functioning properly and holding satisfactory pressure tests. The workover did not require the kelly so it had been laid down for maintenance and was not tested. Don Wester informed me that upon assembly, the kelly would received a full test. In summary, Nabor Rig #2ES BOP test showed all BOP equipment to be in good operating condition. Johnston Commissioner tne commission Date ~/¢~/?~ Form 10-401 Rev. 12-1-85 Submit licate · _ , OBJECTIVE- The objective of the 18-16 A high-angle redrill is to return the well to production at acceptable rates and minimize gas production. A redrill is planed due to several failed attempts to squeeze off the gas as well as formation damage associated with the squeezes in the current wellbore. A high-angle (horizontal) well is required due to a thin oil column and need to maximize gas stand-off. The redrill will move away from the current BHL approximately 1125' to 2125' (1000' section) to the northwest. This location will place the productive, high-angle interval to the northwest of a known fault and in a 65' GLOC (50' NLOC) environment. Pull the existing 3-1/2" 9.3# L-80 PC tubing completion. Plug and abandon the original perforations. Mill a section in the 9-5/8" casing and lay a cement plug below and across the section. Kick-off and drill a new high-angle 8-1/2" hole to the Base of the Sadlerochit. Run a 7" liner and cement in place. Drill approximately 1000' of 6" hole with about 20' vertical departure from the Base of the Sadlerochit. Complete with a 4-1/2,' non-chrome slotted liner and 3-1/2" 13CR tubing. Departure from the current wellbore is targeted for 1125' to 2125' (start to end of SL). Open hole logging will be accomplished with GR / Neutron / Density LWD tools in the 8-1/2" hole section and GR only in the 6" hole section. CURRENT STATUS: The well is currently shut-in due to high GOR and unsuccessful attempts to squeeze gas. DS18-16 is an up-structure well drilled and completed in 1987-88. Initial production rates from the well averaged 950 bopd at solution GOR and no water. However, within a month the GOR was quickly increasing and the gas mechanism was identified as a channel up. To date, DS 18-16 has undergone two cement squeezes to shut off channels up and two mud acid stimulation's resulting in re-opening the channel in both cases. When the well has had good cement integrate, little if any fluid has been produced from Zone 1; this is thought to be due to the poor quality of the reservoir roCk in which it is completed. Currently, the well is on the cycle schedule but has not produced at a GOR below 1.0,200 scf/stb since February, 1992. Fracing is not considered a viable option for 18-16 due to the limited standoff (25') with no shale protection. PERMITTING: The attached sundry notice covers the plugback of the original well and the drilling permit covers the proposed drilling program.
