(MD) Inspection Type: Corrosion Inspection COMMENTS: This survey was run to assess the condition of the tubing and liner with respect to corrosive and mechanical damages. The caliper recordings indicate that the 4.5" tubing is in good to fair condition, with most joints showing 10% to 25% wall penetrations. Only five joints indicate penetrations in excess of 30% wall thickness, and the deepest penetration recorded in the 4.5" tubing occurs in the bottom of the deepest joint, just above the cross-over to 3.5" tubing. In this area there is a general wall loss that extends around the full circumference of the pipe over a 3 ft. vertical interval that appears similar to erosive damage caused by fluid turbulence. The maximum measured wall penetration recorded in this event is 45% wall and the maximum cross-sectional wall loss measures 37%. The 3.5" tubing appears in good to poor condition with respect to corrosive damage. A majority of the top 130 joints, from 2930' to 7050' MD show maximum wall penetration values between 40% and 70% wall thickness. The damage is mostly in the form of isolated pitting and small areas of corrosion with the deepest penetrations occurring mostly in or near the joint upset areas. The severity of the recorded damage dissipates between 7050' and 7400', with most joints showing less than 10% corrosive damage below joint no. 141. Perforations are recorded in Joints 183 and 184. Moderate to severe buckling is indicated in the 3.5" tubing from about 6700' to the bottom of the interval logged, at 9544' MD. The buckling appears to be most severe between 8500' and 8900', with a pipe deformation (ovality) occurring at 8804', just above the packer noted at 8818' on the wellbore diagram. The minimum ID measured in this event is 2.77 inches, with the maximum diameter (perpendicular to the minimum ID) measuring approximately 3.35 inches. Since this deformation occurs at the elbow of a bend, pass-through diameter constraints will be reduced with increasing length of the object attempting to traverse the event. A cross-sectional drawing of the pipe at the location of this deformation is included in the report. 4.5" TUBING - MAXIMUM RECORDED WALL PENETRATIONS: Ring of Corr./Erosion (45%) Jt. 72 @ 2,925' MD Pitting (38%) Jt. 71 @ 2,885' MD Corrosion (32%) Jt. 33 @ 1,330' MD Pitting (32%) Jt. 58 @ 2,330' MD Corrosion (31%) Jt. 32 @ 1,290' MD !~-.'" 1 3 1999 AJ aske 0il & Gas Cons. A circumferencial metal loss of 18% is calculated in Joint 183, at the location of a tubing deformation (mash) due to buckling. It is most likely that this calculation is somewhat exaggerated due to the displacement of the OD surface of the pipe in this deformed interval. The characteristics of the recordings in this area do not point to significant metal loss, but rather significant tubing wall displacement. 3.5" TUBING - MAXIMUM RECORDED ID RESTRICTIONS · The minimum ID recorded in the 3.5" tubing is 2.77", occurring in the area of pipe ovality recorded in Jt. 183 @ 8,804' MD. The ovality appears to be a result of severe pipe buckling, resulting in significantly more ID restriction for objects of more than one foot in length. With this ovality occurring at the elbow of a bend in the pipe, tool length and/or flexibility will have a significant effect on the ability to traverse this event. A cross- sectional drawing of the maximum restriction in this area is included in the report. RECEIVED t~c.,-, 125 1999 ~~ & C..~ C, ons. C~~n An~0~3e {Field Engineer' R. Richey Analyst: J. Numbering starts with the first full length joint below the well head. PUP JOINTS are designated by decimal numbers. For example, Joint #32.1 represents the first pup Joint below Joint #32. SPECIAL TOOLS & NIPPLES GAS LIFT MANDRELS are designated by letters. For example, "B" is the second special tool or nipple from the top of the well. are numbered down from the top. For example: GLM(1), GLM(2), etc. TABULATION SYMBOLS We use a circle as the basic tabulation symbol. The Kinley Caliper records the simultaneous action of all fifteen or thirty feelers. Our survey, therefore, has either 15 or 30 recordings. These lines provide a view around the circumference of the inner surface of the pipe. A complete circle on the tabulation sheet indicates that at least 14 of 15 feelers or 28 of 30 feelers found tubing wall reductions at the same depth on the well. This would be described as a ring. The number of feelers that indicate tubing wall reductions at the same depth is also noted on the tabulation sheet. For a 15 Feeler Caliper ~-~ 3to5 ~-~ 6to9 ~ 10to13 ~ 14to15 For a 30 Feeler Caliper [--~ 6toll ~ 12to19 ~ 20to27 E~ 28to30 PIT RING A PARTIAL RING -~ NO COMMENT MEASUREMENT SYMBOLS A number alone represents the depth of penetration expressed in hundredths of an inch of the deepest pit. In this example 0.08". A groove around the pipe found by 14 of 15 feelers or 28 of 30 feelers. The number inside the circle represents the maximum depth of the dng expressed in hundredths of an inch. A groove around the pipe found by 3 to 13 of 15 feelers or 6 to 27 of 30 feelers. The number inside the partial circle represents the maximum depth of the ring expressed in hundredths of an inch. Indicates no damage was found in that joint. Arco Alaska, Inc. Prudhoe Bay, AK Drill Site ¢18-22 October 19, 1998 Survey No. 27529 Chart No. 22629 APl: 500292230300 This is the first survey of this well to be made with the Kinley Baseline Caliper. The condition of the internal surface of the 3 1/2" 93¢ TDS tubing in the well, from 2,942' to 9,000' (VVLM), is covered in this report. The deepest body penetrations recorded in this survey are in an area of corrosion and a line of corrosion located in the body of Joint ¢'s 40 and 73. These penetrations measure 0.16" or 62% of the tubing wall thickness. Cross-sectional drawings at the location of the damage and photocopies of the recordings for Joint ¢'s 40 and 73 are included in this report.. The deepest makeup penetrations recorded in this survey are possible holes located at the makeup of Joint ¢'s 53 and 117. These penetrations measure 0.25" or 98% makeup wall thickness. In addition, possible holes were recorded in the makeup of Joint ¢'s 124 and 126. These penetrations measure 0.22" or 86% and 0.24" or 94%, respectively, of the makeup wall thickness. Penetrations of these magnitudes may indicate holes of small diameter. Cross-sectional drawings and photocopies of the recordings for Joint ¢'s 53, 117, and 126, at the location of the damage, are included in this report. The condition of the tubing surveyed and analyzed ranges from good to poor with respect to corrosive damage. Indications of damage are recorded in many of the joints in the forms of possible holes, areas of corrosion, lines of corrosion, lines of pits, scattered pits, isolated pits, and rings and partial rings reduction. Each pup joint is given an individual decimal number for future reference. Indications of damage are recorded in a few of these joints. Photocopies of the recordings for representative tool assemblies are included in this report. The GLM assemblies were numbered in ascending order from the top of the well down. Douglass ~,.~ Jack Hartz ~'~ February 25, 1993 Subj: Request for Waiver to Rule 11(a), Conservation Order 165. Arco Alaska, Inc. has requested a waiver from the requirements of Conservation Order 165, Rule 1 l(a) which requires an production profile survey on each new well within six months of putting the well on production. They request waivers on specific well on Drill Sites 15 and 18. The wells in question are a conventional single zone completion and nearly horizontal high angle wells completed in one geologic zone with perforations or slotted liners. The wells specified in the request are: DS 18-22 DS 18-26 DS 18-27 DS 15-28 DS 15-30 DS 15-31 APl # 50-029-22303 APl # 50-029-22329 APl # 50-029-22321 APl # 50-029-22247 APl # 50-029-22282 APl # 50-029-22285 Rule 1 l(a) of C.O. 165 was intended to provide surveillance of zone depletion rates in wells perforated in multiple zones. Production profile surveys on wells completed in single zones, therefore provide no useful information. Zone depletion can be measured directly from production data. Horizontal wells drain laterally along the well course and fall outside the region where productivity profiles are normally applied, namely identifying vertical drainage patterns. Waiving Rule 1 l(a) for these wells will not cause waste nor will correlative rights be impaired. Rule 1 l(d) of C.O. 165 (amended by Rule 2 C.O. 213) allows the Commission to waive the requirements of Rule 1 l(a), 1 l(b), and 11(c) by administrative approval. In addition, the Commission may specify additional surveys beyond those submitted under Rule 1 l(a), 1 l(b), and 11(c) by administrative order, should the need arise. Page 2 Waiver of Rule 11(a), CO 165 ALTERNATIVES The alternatives to productivity profile surveys are measuring volumetric production from monthly production reports. If a well is recompleted later with more than one zone open, a survey can be run then to establish zone contribution and establish zone differential depletion. Finally, the Commission may administratively order additional surveys in single zone conventional wells and horizontal high angle well in the future should the need arise or upon demonstration of value to be gained for surveillance purposes. RECOMMENDATION I recommend the Commission approve the waiver of Rule 1 l(a), CO 165 in the specified wells. Alternatives exist for measuring zone depletion and the Commission may order additional surveys at any time should the need arise. I ARCO Alaska,, Inc.
