Summary The well was suspended in 5/96 with two cement plugs (please see attachment II). A tag of the top plug at 12226' MD was witnessed by a AOGCC representative on 5/2/96 at 11:00 am. The work done in 5/96 basically constitutes the permanent P&A of P-21A. The only additional work to be done will be another test of the 9 5/8" casing to 3500 psi and setting of a cast iron bridge plug at -3300' MD in preparation for the upcoming sidetrack kickoff (redrill). P&A procedure 1) MIRU Doyon 9. Pull hanger and single joint of 3 1/2" tubing below. 2) Pressure test 9 5/8" casing to 3500 psi for 30 minutes. 3) Set cast iron bridge plug at -3300' MD. Set 15,000 lbs down weight on plug as test. P&A complete. The next step involves milling a sidetrack window in the 9 5/8" casing from -3000' MD to -3050' MD. This procedure is covered in the redrill permit. MOJ 4/3/97 RECEIVED 1997 WELL LOG TRANSMITTAL To: State of Alaska Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Comm. Johnston cor~r~isslo~er - ---Date,~:~'/(.¢, ~,.~ Form 10-403 Rev. 06/15/88 Submit In Triplicate P-21A History: The P-21 well was drilled in 1991 and originally intended to drain the southern portion of a large north-south trending horst block to the west of P-Pad. The P-21 top reservoir penetration was significantly deeper than predicted when drilled. The possibility existed that the well missed the targeted fault block, crossing the large fault to the west. There are no uphole logs to verify if any faults were intersected uphole. The depth discrepancy at the top reservoir was very similar to the mapped throw of the fault. A gyro was run to verify the well position and depth prior to plugging the well. P-21A was moved onto by rig Nabors 18E on April 21, 1996. The well was sidetracked using a Baker "one-trip" whipstock to cut the window in the,9-5/8" casing. The pilot hole was successfully drilled to TD on April 30, 1996 at 15460' MD. The'Top Sag River came in approximately 84' deeper than prognosed and the Top Sadlerochit came in 109' deeper than prognosed, therefore, little or no light oil column is present. The enclosed operations summary is to temporarily suspend P-21A well. Jack Hartz with the AOGCC has given verbal approval for the abandonment of the existing bottom hole location for well P-21A on 4/30/96. . . . . . . 8. 9. 10. 11. Suspension Operations Summary POOH. Supervisor State of Alaska Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission DATE: April 21, 1996 FILE NO: AINJDUDD.DOC FROM: Lou Grimaldi/~- ~'-' J--~..-~-, SUBJECT: Petroleum Inspector P- r BOP test Nabors rig #18E BPX well #P-21A Prudhoe Bay Field PTD #96-078 Sunday, April 21,1996: I witnessed the initial BOP test on Nabors rig #18E which is presently drilling BPX well #P-21A in the Prudhoe Bay Field. The test went well with two failures observed. The H2S and Methane detectors were out of calibration and the H2S detector in the pits failed to to register at all. A new sensor head was installed for the H2S detector in the pits and a calibration on the system will be run before the rig drills out. The Kelly had been disassembled for the rig move and will be tested when it is picked up and ready. All other equipment I observed had the appearance of regular maintenance. The area surrounding the rig was well organized and I appreciated Mike Whitely (Co. rep.) and Bill Bixby (Nabors Toolpushers) attention to this test. NOTE: i received a call this evening informing me that the Gas detection system was fully operational and had been calibrated. SUMMARY: I witnessed the initial BOP test on Nabors rig #18E. With sufficient NLOC in the pilot hole, the pilot hole will be P&A'd and the horizontal section drilled to the proposed TD. If the results from the pilot indicate a greater than prognosed NLOC, then the pilot hole will be P&A'd and an Application to revise the current Permit to Drill will be submitted as the horizontal section may be extended. The drilling fluid program and surface system will conform to the regulations set forth in 20AAC25.003. b. Maximum surface pressure is based on BHP and a full column of gas to TD (0.10 psi/ft). c. The most recent H2S level on this well indicated no H2S. Even though no H2S has been detected, proper precautions will be taken as needed. d. Drilling Hazards: · This well is planned to avoid all mapped faults. However, if a fault is crossed in Sag River or Sadlerochit, history indicates faults are highly conductive. · Top of Sag River has a possible hard streak - may take time to kickoff in upper Sag River · Due to high angle through Kingak shales (-60°), may encounter similar problems as well P-20A. P-21A Permit Information Page 3 P-21A Operations Summary Pre-Rig Operations 1. Test the 9-5/8" mandrel packoff to 5000 psi. 2. With an AOGCC representative on location to witness the operation, R/U slickline and tag the top of the cement to verify cement is at approximately 14,096' MD. 3. Bleed tubing and annuli pressures to zero. 4. Set BPV in the tubing hanger and test from below to 1000 psi. Secure well. 5. Remove the well house. If necessary, level the pad and dig out the cellar. Rig Operations 1. MIRU drilling rig. 2. Test 9-5/8" mandrel packoff to 5000 psi. If pack-off fails, change out packoff in Step 5 prior to cutting the section. 3. Install a TWC and test from below to 1000 psi. N/D the production tree. 4. N/U BOP. Test BOP to 250/5000 psi against TWC. Test annular preventer to 250/2500 psi. Remove TWC. Send adapter flange and tree to DSM for inspection and repair. Pull and lay down the joint of 4-1/2" tubing and hanger. Inspect for NORM. Install thread protectors on pipe which upon visual inspection appears to be re-usable. If tubing is salvageable, send tubing to Tuboscpoe for inspection. If 9-5/8" mandrel packoff did not test in Step 2, pull and replace packoff through the BOP stack. RIH to 2100' MD. Circulate out freeze protection fluid to seawater. RU Atlas. Run GR/JB to 12600' MD.
