UNG ~, WELLS BP Exploration Alaska To: Tom Maunder - AOGCC Date: May 7, 2001 From: Scott Kolstad Subject: Reference: DS 18-04A Application for Sundry Permit - P&A for Sidetrack Operations APl # 50-029-20875-00 Well 18-04A was drilled in 1998. The well has produced poorly due to poor reservoir quality. The well is scheduled to be sidetracked to a new bottom hole location as a conventional producer tar,~leting the Ivishak reservoir. The sidetrack is currently scheduled for Nabors 9ES beginning around May 29"', after the completion of B-05B. The pre-rig work for this sidetrack is planned to begin as soon as the attached Application for Sundry is approved. Pre-Rig Work: * Notify the field AOGCC representative with intent to plug and abandon * 1. Rig up slickline, drift and tag. 2. RU coil tubing to P&A perforations. RIH with CTU to the top of the 2 7/8" liner at 9,303' and displace the well to clean seawater. The estimated reservoir pressure in 18-04A is -3,200 psi (at ~8,800' TVDss this is equal to 7.0 ppg EMW). Perform a cement P&A using 15.8 ppg class 'G' cement. Use adequate cement volume to fill the 2 7/8" liner from PBTD at 11,202' MD to 9,303', plus squeeze 5 bbls into the perforations. Estimated minimum cement volume required is ~16 barrels (11 bbls 2 7/8" liner volume and 5 bbls squeezed into the perforations). NOTE: For AOGCC compliance the minimum top of cement is 10,385'. However, due to the small volume of cement required plan on bringing the cement to the top of the 2 718" liner. The top of cement may extend further up hole as long as it does not interfere with the upcoming tubing cut operation. The tubing will be cut at 9,050'. 3. Liquid pack the tubing and 9-5/8" x 4 %" annulus to surface. Test the integrity of the cement plug and 9-5/8" casing to 3000 psi for 30 minutes. 4. RU E-line. Cut the 4 ~" tubing at _+ 9,000' in the middle of a joint. 5. Test the 9-5/8" packoff and tubing hanger seals. 6. Bleed casing and annulus pressures to zero. 7. Remove the well house. If necessary, level the pad. Please provide total well preparation cost on the handover form. Ri,q 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. . Operations: MIRU Nabors 9ES. The well did not flow. A Hydraulic Fracture Treatment was performed in September of 1998 after which it would flow only with nitrogen. An 8400' long string of 2-3/8" coiled tubing was run in the well in August 1999 to allow gas lifting until FM gas increased enough for the well to flow on its own. A 5000# FMC 5 x7 coil tubing head spool piece was first installed in the tree just below the master valve. The AL coil string was hung off this tubing head using a 5" FMC tubing hanger. The tubing hanger has a 4-1/2" G fishing neck on the top looking up. A Weatherford PT nipple & WLEG were run on the lower end of the coil string to allow a 1-1/4" pump though plug to be used during installation & removal. The coil string is hanging free from the hanger and is not attached at the BTM (8430'). Unfortunately the well was unstable, repeatedly plugged off with paraffin, and produced only intermittently on gas lift. It has been shut in since March 2000. A CT ST is planned for late 2001. The 8400' AL coil string removal is described below: Performed Hot Oil Treatment (to clear paraffin plug in the 2-3/8' x4-1/2" annulus forfuture extraction of the 2-3/8" AL Coil string) as follows: MIRU CTU. Tested BOPE. RIH w/1-1/2" CT & pumped a total of 706 bbls of 170° F Crude, 45 bbls Hot Diesel, 11 bbls Diesel / Xylene, 5 bbls Neat Methanol. Successful removed paraffin plug f/the 2-3/8" x 4-1/2" annulus. POOH w/CT. RD. RIH w/slickline & set a Weatherford 1-1/2" PE Plug in PT Nipple @ 8436'. MIRU service CTU & Work Platform. Commenced BOPE test. Completed BOPE test. PU Baker BHA & Lubricator. Killed well w/1% KCL Water. Spotted 24 bbl FIo Pro Pill. Checked well for flow - flowed back Diesel. Attempted several times to sting into tubing hanger fishing neck - all attempts were unsuccessful. Opened well & monitored it for flow. Pumped water down IA. RU slickline. RIH w/LIB & spangs to top of CT fishing neck in tubing hanger. POOH w/information on damaged G fishing neck. Ran 5" overshot w/tattle tail pins on inside. Appears that overshot swallowed 7" - 8" over the top of the fishing neck. RD SLU. FP'd well. Ran special swaging tool on top of bent AL coil string GS fishing neck until clear for a back press valve to be set. Set Cameron 2" BPV. ND BOP's. Removed damaged fishing neck. MU 2-3/8" pup joints w/TIW Valve in tubing hanger. NU & PT'd BOP's. MU CTC to top pup joint. PUH to place hanger @ floor. RD pup joints, MU to hanger, & pull AL coil string into lubricator.
