CPF2 MAY 26TH AND 27TH FLARING EVENTS SUMMARY
. The first flare event at CPF2 started at 16:47 on 5/25/2002 and lasted 1 hr. 8 min.
This was the result of an operator initiated facility-wide emergency shutdown (ESD)
due to a defective level transmitter on the crude flash drum. All production from
CPF2 was shut down at that time and all CPF2 drill site wells were shut in.
.. The second flare event started at 20:50 and lasted 2 hr. 2 min. This was the result of
a facility-wide blowdown emergency shutdown (BESD) and restart of the gas
compressors.
Note: One hour of the flare event can be attributed to the Facility BESD Test. This
test has to be performed every 3 years (it has been 2 years since our last test), and
we decided to do it while the facility was shutdown because we anticipated that the
instrumentation repairs necessary to bring the facifity back on line would take longer
than the duration ot the test.
.. The third flare event started at 23:05 and lasted 4 hr. 8 min. This was the result of
the continued start up of the gas compressors and valves venting to the flare system.
These flaring events were a result of an emergency shutdown and subsequent restart of CPF2
and could not have been avoided.
