This note is to inform you of a flaring incident which occurred on January
23, 2002. At 09:52, GC3 started flaring
because CGF booster compressors 1801, 1802, and 1857 shutdown. At 09:56, the
flare relief valve at GC1 opened.
Booster 1802 shutdown due to an exhaust gas temperature problem. Then,
booster 1801 shutdown because of
vibration problems when 1802 shutdown. Then, booster 1857 shutdown because
of a fuel control problem. The
WOA immediately started reducing productionrates and shutin 1141 MMSCF. The
EOA immediately started
reducing production and shut in 1000 MMSCF. This gas cut was enough to lower
the gas transit header pressure
to stop flaring. GCltlared a total of 6,433 MSCF for 59 minutes, and GC3
flared a total of 7,697 MSCF for 1 hr,
8 minutes. Due to the significant amount of production (approximately 60
wells) that had to be shut in in order to
reduce the pressure enough to close the flare relief valve, the flaring
event at GC3 lasted over 1 hr. Because of the
gas piping hydraulics, the pressure at GCl was reduced sooner and they were
able to stop flaring in just under 1 hr.
Please don't hesitate to call me with any questions.

First Determination of Cause:
1. While bringing production rates up following GC shutdown, LPS compressors failed to start up.
Action Taken to Stop Flaring:
1. Flaring was permitted to continue while GC operations personnel attempted to restart the
equipment. Started to cut rate to get out of flare. Looked like compressor was going to start.
Opened rate back up. Compressor didn't make it. Started cutting rate again. Compressor finally on
after turbine tech arrived. Brought rate back up.

>
> On August 9, GC3 low stage compressor K5500
> developed an axial thrust bearing vibration problem. The last time that a
> similar bearing vibration was allowed to continue, the compressor failed
> completely. The decision was made to shutdown the machine to replace the
> compressor cartridge. K5500 was shutdown at 15:16 hrs on 8/9/02. This
> compressor normally processes 4.9 MMSCFPD. When the compressor was
> shutdown, we SI all production from A & X Pads (330 MM/D) and added assist
> gas to the flare to prevent black smoke. This reduction in rate coming
> into the plant reduced the volume that K5500 would normally process to 3.5
> MM/D (K5500 processes the gas left in the oil from the PW tanks, stripping
> gas from TEG regeneration and gas from the condensate collection vessel).
> This was the effective flare rate until K5500 was restarted. K5500 was
> restarted on August 11 at 10:17 hrs. The flarin~~ted for 43
> hrs and 1 minute, and the total volume flared ~_ 7,359 MSCF~
There was a side beñê'riL [yOm --rIÎis incident.
FS3 took their C Train down on 8/9 for cleanout/inspection/repair and they
weren't going to be able to handle the full rate coming from GC3 anyway, so
SI the gas from GC3 minimized the rate that was cut at FS3 for their work.

First Determination of Cause:
1. High ambient temperature swings resulted in flaring and required cuts in production. Ambient
temperature increased by 10°F.
2. Extended flaring event occurred while awaiting GC operator/maintenance evaluation. Determined
PSV malfunction off of LPS discharge in piperack.
Action Taken to Stop Flaring:
1. WOA stopped bringing production rates up and moved rate to Annex
2. WOA reduced production rates and moved 4 wells equaling 75 mmscfd to Annex, also moved
another 125mm from LP to HP to reduce flaring. (200mm total cut) Wells were shut-in or choked
back starting at 0415 hours. 0640 cut an additional 11 Omm. PSV crew is on location.
