This flare uses air for assist gas instead of fuel gas so you'll see the assist gas go to zero in the Sept report. Pilot purge IS slightly higher with the new flare and I'm tracking down the technical reason for that. 2) I talked with the Operations Lead Tech at Endicott regarding this flaring. He said they were depressuring and deinventorying the facility over the 14th and 15th. The volumes shown were flared volumes, not assist gas. The comment refers to the need to use some assist gas to prevent black smoke during this time. 3) I've requested this programming change for the Northstar report. Let me know if you need more information. During the course of restarting the Endicott Production Facility earlier this month (Sept. 4 - 9), an intermittent unplanned flaring event occurred which could not be avoided. Collectively this event lasted longer than one hour and approached 5 MOOF in total cumulative volume. This, of course, will be reflected in our September report to you. MM5C. F The Endicott Production Facility recently underwent a planned two week turnaround extending to September 4th when the Facility was partially restarted with only one of the two Main Gas Compressors available. We had numerous difficulties keeping a single "Booster Compressor" online. Between late September 4th and the morning of September 9th numerous mechanical/electrical problems were encountered with the Booster Compressors. Attempts to keep one of these machines running continuously were largely unsuccessful, while the Facility was running with only one Gas Train. On the morning of September 9th, the second Main Gas Compressor was returned to service, whereupon the Booster Compressors were also returned to normal service and functioned without problems. On September 11th, after a Main Gas Compressor had tripped offline several times, it was determined that repairs were necessary before this machine was capable of functioning correctly. At that time, the Booster Compressors again became unreliable. On the basis of lessons learned during the previous event it was decided to experiment with changing process parameters in an attempt to run the Booster Compressors continuously. We reduced the First Stage Separator pressure from approximately 435 psi to 415 psi. This change in operating conditions allowed the Booster Compressor to remain online when only one Gas Train is in service. We will use this procedure in future situations. It has to do with how flaring is captured as an event. Before the automation system says "oh, there's a flare event going on that needs to be recorded", some threshold (time and/or flow rate) must be reached. We know that an event that is recorded as exactly one hour actually would have lasted just slightly over one hour so that's why it's in the> 1 hour category.
