Northstar gas release and facility shutdown Dear Mr. Nornutn: Following our initial notification of the Northstar gas release and associated facility shut -down, BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. (BPXA) is submitting the 5-day report as required by 20 AAC 25.205(b). On February 15 2007, a pinhole gas seep was discovered on a weld in an 8 -inch discharge cooler pipe of the low pressure gas compression equipment at the Northstar facility. We believe that the volume released was well below the reporting threshold of 1,000 msef. On February 16th, 2007. the facility was shut down to inspect the seep (including its cause) and implement repairs. BPXA is fully inspecting associated piping before returning the facility to service. To date, these inspections have identified additional areas that require repair. These repairs are in progress and restart of the facility is anticipated sometime next week. BPXA will submit a final written report within 30 days as required by 20 AAC 25.205(b).
