HomeMy WebLinkAboutBeaver Creek / Marathon Oil Co STATE OF ALASKA AOGCC GAS DISPOSITION FILES YEAR: 2008 FACILITY: Beaver Creek OPERATOR: MARATHON OIL CO BEAVER CREEK GAS DISPOSITION FACILITY REVISED GAS SOLD & LEASE USE OCTOBER 2004 THRU JUNE 2010 On August 11, 2011, Gary Laughlin, a Marathon Oil employee provided the following information to explain the revision to the gas disposition report. I have attached a paragraph from a letter between Enstar and Marathon concerning the measurement of gas at the Beaver Creek facility. The bolded section describes the situation and provides the beginning and ending date information. Marathon had over billed Enstar due to the metering issue described below. The net effect was Marathon understated its lease use volume for the time period. Marathon Alaska Production LLC "The Beaver Creek 2004 Compressor Use Agreement (as amended in 2007) between Alaska Pipeline Company (APC) and Marathon Alaska Production LLC (MAP LLC) requires APC to pay for all fuel gas for the compressor. In early 2009, MAP LLC discovered that there was an off take down stream of the Beaver Creek compressor gas meter (meter 1401) feeding a MAP LLC generator package unit. The generation unit was installed and commissioned for service on October 27, 2004. As a result of this finding, MAP LLC installed a gas meter on the off take gas supply line to MAP LLC's generator package unit. The new meter was on line May 1, 2009. APC was correctly invoiced for the actual fuel used by the Beaver Creek compressor effective with the May 2009 invoice." The attached sheet has correction for the year by month for the Gas Disposition Form 10 -422. I certify that the revision submitted are true and correct to the best of my knowledge. Vented volumes should be reported on the gas disposition form. It is unfortunate that the venting was needed. You note in your message that Marathon's Saturn compressor was down for maintenance and you related in our call that an Enstar compressor that possibly could have lowered the line pressure was unavailable. When it is necessary to vent gas, please be sure to include Jane Williamson, PE as an addressee for any messages. Tom Maunder, PE AOGCC From: Walsh, Ken [ mailto:kdwalsh @marathonoil.com] Sent: Monday, October 20, 2008 5:18 PM To: Maunder, Thomas E (DOA) Cc: Skiba, Kevin J.; Ibele, Lyndon; Turkington, Jeffrey A.; McKibbon Jr, Earl Subject: Beaver Creek Emergency Venting Tom, By way of this email, 1 am providing notice that Marathon began venting gas from one of our Beaver Creek wells starting at 10 :00 am today, October 20. Another two Beaver Creek wells 10/23/2008 Beaver Creek Emergency Venting Page 2 of 2 are expected to be vented periodically throughout the next three days. The venting was necessary to keep the wells from liquid loading since our Saturn compressor was taken down for maintenance issues. We expect the maintenance to last no later than 18:00 hrs on October 22. The maximum anticipated daily vent volumes are estimated at 3.50 MMscfd which would total to 8.2 MMscf over the 56-hour vent period. Marathon respectfully requests the AOGCC indulgence with this plan to prevent production losses due to liquid loading and potential necessary efforts to jet the wells back in to reestablish gas flow.
