ALASKA OIL AND GAS CONSERVATION COMMISSION SUPPLEMENT TO FORM 10-422 FACILITY REPORT OF PRODUCED GAS DISPOSITION Nicolai Creek Unit No.3 Facility, Operated by Aurora Gas, LLC Nicolai Creek Field, March 2002 The volume of gas vented indicated in item 4 of the attached Form 10-422, 1642 MCF, was the total vented during two occurrences during the month, both were unplanned ventings through the compressor discharge relief valve. The first occurred between 1330 hrs and 1930 hrs on 3/20/02. The venting occurred when the automatic shut-down valve (SDV) at the pipeline closed (about a mile from the compressor) and the pressure in the flowline between the compressor and the SDV exceeded the setting of the relief valve, opening the relief valve and venting an estimated 780 mcfinto the atmosphere before the situation was discovered by the field operator. The electronic high-discharge pressure shut-down control on the compressor, which was set to kill the compressor 50 psi below the relief valve setting, failed to kill the compressor due to a faulty connection. The second incident of venting occurred between 1845 hrs on 3/23/02 and 0830 hrs on 3/24/02. The earlier shutdown had apparently allowed some ice to build up in the I-mile flowline that partially restricted the line, causing the compressor discharge pressure to build up sufficiently to cause the relief valve to open repeatedly, relieving the pressure and venting some of the flow into the atmosphere. An estimated 862 mcf was vented during this time, estimated from the difference between the readings of the orifice meter at the pipeline before the venting occurred and during the occurrence. The relief valve, a used one which replaced the one opening in the previous occurrence, was apparently opening at a lower pressure than it's specified setting-it has since been replaced with a new one.
