Dolly Varden Platform < =1 hour flaring events reduced in March 2003 In early 2003 we converted the lift type for several wells from gas lift to electric submersible pump (ESP). Flaring associated with EPS's is less than that with gas lift. As such flare volume was reduced. < =1 hour flaring events increase between May and October 2005 Between May and October the facility was: • performing maintenance (wire line work) on several wells, performing maintenance on two gas lift compressors, ✓ performing maintenance on a gas compressor control panel, and experiencing process upsets. Each of these factors resulted in an increase in the number of less than one hour flaring events and was necessary to maintain the safety and integrity of the operation. King Platform Flaring Events < =1 hour A cooler associated with the Solar York compressor failed unexpectedly rendering the unit inoperable. This unit burns crude oil vapors (COVs) which is gas that breaks out of the oil that we produce. Given that we were still in production we were continuing to generate COVs. With the Solar York down we had no unit in which to utilize the vapors so, by design, they were sent to flare. In the associated operating scenario the COVs build up in a tank then, at a high enough pressure, release to flare. The events are all less than one hour given the releases last less than one hour. One should note that we were not buying any additional fuel from shore during this time. As such no additional resources were consumed. That is to say that what was normally consumed by the Solar York was consumed by the flare. The Solar York has been repaired and we should soon see the less than 1 hour flare volumes drop back down.
