At the time of the shutdown the standby turbine 1801 had been removed from FS-3 for a scheduled 2000-hour inspection. At 1350 hours it was determined 1802T/C could not be restarted due to a mechanical failure in the gas generator. Turbine overhaul crew and rotating engineer were notified immediately and dispatched to FS-3. After reviewing our options the decision was made to reinstall 1$OlT/C. This decision was based on safety and a short duration of time to stop the flaring event. A message was left on AOGCC recorder at 1435 hours notifying of the situation, ] 801 TIC scheduled overhaul was completed and the turbine moved from SIP (overhaul shop) to FS-3. The turbine was installed and restarted by 1820 hours, Total flare length was 5.1 hrs and volume of 7.04 MMscf. The only other option to get FS-3 off flare was a complete plant shutdown. Shutting down and restarting the Flow Station would have resulted in a significantly larger amount of flared gas. ~~ ~a ~ Gay co~~.
