Flare/Relief Valve 17:17 18:40 1 Hrs. 9Mins ~ ^ Planned VOLUME ^ 599 MSCF TOTAL VOLUME 599 MSCF First Determination of Cause: 1. At 1600hrs a PLC glitch, caused all of GC-2's water injection pumps to S/D. PCC controller initiated rate cuts equal to 30mbpd-oil, 193mmscfd-gas, 100mbpd-water. The resulting downstream loss of gas flow to K-205 LP compressor caused the compressor to go into surge condition and flare. Action Taken to Stop Flaring: 1. Assist gas automatically added to prevent black smoke. K-205 continued to surge, GC operators decided to S/D K-205 to prevent internal damage to compressor, until gas flow could be reestablished. At 1730hrs GC operators restarted the produced water injection pumps. At this time PCC controller started driving well chokes back open. With the restart of produced water injection pumps and return to normal rates, GC-2 operators at 1840hrs were able to restart K-205 LP compressor and keep it loaded. Flare valve closed, assist gas off. ~~~ p (r~~~y '~ tf!t~a;~~ R 2 ~ e(,l J~ ryt ~g ?~ 9"1iGM"{~ `r:i i7s t.S~:Y F.'4I~a7. ~'J'~b~iBA~~ERiF3B` Monday, February 28, 2000 Page 1 of 1 . High gas transit line pressure caused by CGF compressor problems due to Loss of 1878 Tandem. 2. High transit pressure caused by Flow 3 bringing on well. 3. The produced water system at GC2 had major malfunctions. The PLC controlling the system lost communications with all PWX. All LP production was shutin. LP Compressors could not run properly with the low amount of gas they had to compress causing LP flaring intermittent most of the day. The majority of the volume flared consisted of assist gas to prevent black smoke flaring Action Taken to Stop Flaring: 1. BPX reduced production rates and shut-in 2 wells equaling 50 mmscfd. ARCO reduced production rates and shut-in 2 wells equaling 48 mmscfd. Wells were shut-in or choked back starting at 0150 hours. 2. BPX reduced production rates and shut-in 6 wells equaling 120 mmscfd. Wells were choked back starting at 05:29 hours. 3. Starting at 05:57 when PWX first shutdown all LP wells were choked to minimum. At 06:16 all diverts were shut from H,M,N,R, and S-Pads. At 06:52 HP wells were choked back & the gas rate to the GC was cut by 750mm. Trouble shooting for the PLC problem was ongoing with the intent to bring GC2 back on line. However at 20:23 the decision was made to shut all production to GC2 until PLC problems could be totally resolved.
