During this upset, 'the corrosion crew also returned well 2-18 to production following a downhole treatment. MGC-B exhaust temperature rose to the alarm point. MGC-B was slowed to troubleshoot the cause of the high exhaust temperature. Flaring continued at =130 mmscfd for 40 minutes until the cause was found (PHM temperature control valve was closed but indicated open). This valve was then opened and flaring was reduced to =20 mmscfd at which time the plant was shutdown on high 1st stage level (valve logic failure). Flaring continued as wells were brought back on line and the process restabilized. ACTION TAKEN TO ELIMINATE CAUSE Increased gas lift rates at SDI to change flow regime from slug to stratified flow, which successfully stabilized the process. MGC-B was sped back up as exhaust temperature fell once the indicated position problem on the PHM temperature control valve was corrected. The plant was restabilized following the subsequent plant shutdowns. (flaring was down to an intermittent ~4 mscfd). The The logic failure on the 1st stage level control plant was then shutdown a final time resulting from a valve has subsequently been fixed. liquid slug and subsequent high 1st stage level. Ambient temperature increased 3.7°F in 30 minutes. Shut-in well 1-35. Ambient temperature increased 1.5°F in 10 minutes, then 3.4°F in 10 minutes, then 5°F in 30 minutes. Flaring was intermittent during this time. MGC-B shut down on high exhaust temperature. Ambient temperature increased 10.5°F during the hour. Flaring was intermittent over this period. Ambient temperature increased 4.8°F in 30 minutes. Production rates were sequentially reduced in response to each temperature increase in an attempt to close the flare valve. Reduced production rates to eliminate flaring. Three wells were shut-in to eliminate flaring. Reduced production rates to eliminate flaring. 3/5/96 BP EXPLORATION (ALASKA) INC.
