On January 19, 2000 the entire Generator #1 shorted out. The generator was rebuilt and re-sealed. During this time the diesel generator was operated. Flare volumes were reduced by sending production to GPTF. On January 27, 2000 at 9:50 pm the compressor shut down as a result of the solar turbine over heating. An unusual shift in the wind direction resulted in exhaust gas being sucked into the gas compressor which caused it to overheat and shutdown. The high wind made it difficult for the coolers to effectively blow air though the heat exchanger. Flare volumes were reduced due to shut in production. After the compressor was back on line it took about two hours on January 28th to balance the wells and return to normal operating conditions. Oil production on Granite Point platform requires gas lift to prevent water encroachment. When wells are shut in back pressure occurs in the oil and gas separator. In order to return to normal operations the back pressure is removed by sending gas to the flare. If you need more information please contact me. Janet G.
