This email is a response to your questions. * Why was the chemical plant shut in and the pipeline packed off? On April 1, 1999 the Kenai Chemical Plant (formerly named Alaska Nitrogen Products) experienced a significant power outage that resulted in a plant shut down. A high voltage transformer failed. All plants except plant 1 were brought on line within 24 hours of the outage. Plant 1 remained shut down for transformer repair for 9 days. We were able to restore production from Dillon within one day. When the Chemical plant is shut down the pipeline pressures rise preventing Dillon from shipping gas. The Chemical Plant is the only point of sale. * Is this the Urea Plant? Yes. Should you need more information please contact me. Thank you, Janet G.
