Research leads the Commission to conclude that crude flash gas from the facility is not marketable to the Cook Inlet Gas Gathering System (CIGGS) as the gas does not meet the CIGGS's quality standards for liquid or sulfur content and that this gas, under current conditions, cannot be used safely for facility fuel. Conversations. between Lew Dennis, Unocal's Senior Production Engineer, and Blair Wondzell of the AOGCC staff indicate that Unocal is examining the feasibility of sufFciently sweetening the sour gas in the hope that it can be safely used for fuel at the Trading Bay Production Facility. Should this prove possible, it appears that the necessary equipment can be installed and operating by the end of 1997. The Commission considers this sour gas, which is not currently salable or useable, a "waste" with future potential as fuel gas and therefore approves the request to flare an additional 300-500 mcf of gas per day for safety purposes. This approval will take effect immediately and remain in effect through December 31, 1997. During this time, please keep the Commission apprised of the engineering work occurring on treatment of the gas for use as a source of fuel. Should you have any questions, please contact me.
